Legacy System now DEMANDS 16 char slots per server

I want more character slots. Lots more. I like the idea of unlocking them when a character hits 50. Why? 8 character slots is enough to play through every story and AC due to mirroring right? True, and if all I cared about was mechanics then no problem.

But the thing is, I like alts. A lot. And some of my alts are literally alternate versions of an existing character. For example I have a Guardian and a Sentinel and they are both the same character from my own twisted story point of view.

I already play on three servers and would love it if I could have all those characters on a single server.

I can recall getting a free character slot in some games with the introduction of new races or classes. There are also games where you can purchase additional character slots.

I'm not sure what your game experience has been in the past, but I don't think it is wrong to want more slots, when it is not an impossibility by any means.

Legacy system rewards having characters in both factions.

Advanced class system creates 8 classes per faction.
nope, there are 4 basic classes and 8 total advanced classes in the game. Both factions have access to all advanced classes just with different names.

Why would you want to play two sith warriors and repeat the old content again? Play a jugg and a sentinel, enjoy both storylines, don't waste your time. It's far more limited than you realize, no refunds!

You can play light and dark on Jugg/Mara the story doesn't change that much, but it does change.
Real Star Wars space combat please, not Star Wars Fox! Maybe some PvP and flight too?

I've let this thread take it's own course, but after a few days, think it's worthwhile to come back and address a few points:

First, NO ONE has made a legit argument for why there SHOULD NOT be more character slots.

Second, when the game launched, I never once dreamed I would be able to use the in game mailing system to send items, money, materials to an alt of the other faction. That type of thing just seemed like fantasy at launch, given how EVERY OTHER MMO works.

Third, every other MMO's character slot limits make sense, with regard to the number of classes and races for a single faction on the server, along with the time it takes to level them up. The BIG MMO (which shall not be named) has 10 slots and 10 classes. It also has dual speccing, so on one server, you can essentially max out every possible choice for a faction. And if you want both factions, there's no NEED or incentive to have those toons on the same server, so you can make 10 more on a different server for the other faction, if you so feel the need (although, I only did, as a backup for my server being down on ocassion)

FOURTH, cross faction alts are seriously GUILD BREAKING. They encourage a player to be AWAY FROM THE GUILD. Cross faction alts, without a cross faction guild, are a sure fire way to deteriorate the social fabric of this game. Cross faction alts, without a cross faction guild (supported via in game mechanics), further legitimizes the notion that this is a massively single player game.

Finally, I think BioWare needs to seriously reconsider the notion that cross faction alts on the same server should be encouraged. I love MOST of the legacy system. The only part I don't like is this cross faction crap that has a number of holes in it. It's clearly being added without complete thought to the total impact on the community, as well as the current system limitations (like 8 char slots).

Would 12 slots be ok then? Yeah...I suppose so. But I still have to level those up, away from my guild. Why would I WANT to do that? Sure, I can BUY the cross faction perks, but what BioWare wants me to do is enjoy the awesome story they've written for the classes in the other faction. I understand that. They spent a lot of time developing that content, and leveling to 50 is so quick, they want to encourage players to consume all of the content they have developed, so they don't complain there's nothing to do at 50. I get that. Smart idea, BioWare. Oh wait: It's breaking down community for guilds everywhere? OOOOoooopppps...we didn't think of that. Doh!
<insert lots of characters here>- The Harbinger - Invictus guild.

Completely agree with this and hadnt really thought of it before. Personally i think they need to have guilds (and probably friends list too) invite people by their account, not their character, similar to what you would see in Battlenet, or upcoming GW2.

I think the only reason to not increase the limit would be if there are plans to sell slots.
Chaching chaching.

I don't think people would make twice as many characters. I certainly wouldn't, and I'm an altaholic!

Agree that more slots, or some other solution, is needed.

Had I known at least rough details about the legacy system 2 months ago, I would have made very different choices. But at this point I have alts on all 8 slots, so after 1.2 my only options will be either to delete characters that I have spent time leveling, or miss out on some of what the legacy system has to offer. And so now I just kind of want to stop playing on those alts entirely until more information is revealed, which makes me even more frustrated by this change — a change that I was originally pretty excited about.

I hope someone at BioWare is listening and can provide some guidance. The implications of this change aren't typical for an MMO; it goes beyond balance changes or new content, particularly with respect to mixing factions on one server. It fundamenatlly influences the decision making process about how to allocate the available character slots, and some of us are well past that point.

Well said. Someone from Bioware please read this!

Account wide bad idea imo

No thanks I don't want all my toons forced into one guild.... plus some more serious guilds don't allow or want (nor should they) to be cluttered with alts.

More character slots though yes!
