I think we can all agree that Windows doesn't work for everyone. In fact the vast majority of Windows users are still on XP. Which is telling.

SWTOR has a very real opportunity to bring Linux gaming to the for front. I'm sure through crowd sourcing we could raise enough cash to make a client or at the very least support WINE integration. I mean that's what this is about, right? Money?

The main problem is lack of initiative at Bioware. No matter what is said in these forums the devs don't post replies or probably read this. Whether Linux/OS X/etc... is fit to run swtor is almost a moot point when no one respects the customer enough to even respond.

Since WINE runs on nearly every OS that people use that is not Windows, getting the problems with WINE fixed would allow TOR to run on not just Linux, but also OSX (as well as BSD and Solaris) with only adding one extra compatibility over Windows. (Just having a OSX port would only add a subset of those).

We are few in numbers and not too active, there is no use to say that we are interesting to them when in 2 months we have made 7 pages on this forum. I didn't count, but I belive, we have about 10 posters. We can't speak money, we are minority.

This is good news, yes?

EDIT: I saw on the Crossover Games Forums that they have created an experimental build of crossover that supports SWTOR (seems to be using Carsten Juttner's patch) and some appear to be having success with it.

Yes. Good news. I installed said build of Crossover last night on various PC's.
PC running the 32bit and 64bit build of Ubuntu 12.04 beta one, SWTOR failed to run.
However, running PCLinuxOS, Ubuntu 11.10, and the most recent stable builds of OpenSUSE and Fedora all ran fine.
I lost maybe 3 to 5 fps max but other than that it runs well and looks fantastic.

So did anyone find out where in all the noodle coding the winsock issue comes from?

And if they'd ever change as that reminds to say. But every time I see them makes me wish I had a gun. If I thought that I was crazy well I guess I'd have more fun.

I saw Crossover Games upgraded SWTOR from "Garbage" to "Gold" status and wineHQ upgraded the game to "Silver".
