There was a time when people spend hours and hours playing for no other reason but to win and to have fun. There was a time this was true for online multiplayer computer games as well (counterstrike was a great example of this. People playing the same map over and over and over. Same gear. Same damage, health and armor each time the map restart)

I honestly does not think it is up to Bioware to "fix" this. I think it is up to the new WoW generation to step back and get a grip. You kids really need the developers of the game to hold your hand through the entire match in order to play to win. To have fun? Is it maybe too late. Do we have an entire generation that is lost. That will never play to win. to have fun. That always need more loot as a carrot to do... well.. anything.

Sad.
This is so true!

It really did make things more boring.

Got 75 commendations for a loss, 95 for a win. People just give up if they're probably going to lose.

Used to get 100-120 commendations every game, too.

Overall, PVP has greatly improved. On my server, few go afk after getting their 4 medals. Why would you go afk when wither win or lose, you earn virtually the same? You'll get more entertainment playing the match, even on the bad end of a lopsided loss, than sitting in your spawn afk.

Sadly you have to accept that a large number of people playing this game will behave in this way because they couldn't care less about their group of anyone else having fun. They have found a way to exploit the game and couldn't care less about doing so.

Personally I have an optimistic theory that they are the same people who come on the PvP forums threatening to unsub. I hope that my theory is correct.

As soon as I realize it's a lost cause, I afk. GG Bioware.

I'm tired of games that feel like they need to 'reward' people for every little thing, including losing and being terrible. It creates crap like this.

The best PvP I've ever encountered never had any kind of material awards. It was for the sake of fighting the other faction, and destroying what the other faction created.

MMO PvP is dead.

If MMO PvP is dead it is 100% the players that killed it. Likewise the best PvP I ever played had next to no rewards, but we would have loved to have them. The problem isn't that there have been incentives created, the problem is that the PvP crowd is exactly the same as the PvE crowd now. PvP has just become one more way to chase your gear carrot.

It's not the players' fault at all. It's the fault of the game companies that decided they needed to turn PvP into PvE: Intanced grinds for gear.

PvP was fine in MMOs until Blizzard ruined PvP and set a precedent for other MMOs. In turning PvP into a grind for gear, they also removed any and all consequences from PvP. To the point now where if there is any sort of consequences at all, people lose their mind and will completely boycott the entire game.

It's all just reward reward reward. Even for getting destroyed, you get a reward. It's like kids sports leagues where they don't keep score and everyone gets a trophy. That is some sad ****. That's what MMOs are now. All of the excitement and meaning has been sucked out and replaced with the drudgery of grinding for gear.

As a DPSer that can't get as many medals as other people, I STILL try to get as many as I can. Not so that others say "ooh, looky, he got 7 medals", but for me to look at my screen and say "That is an improvement over the last match". However, I really wish I could earn SOMETHING for actually completing an objective, whether it be score in Huttball, Plant/Defuse a bomb, or cap a turret. I am constantly trying to achieve victory in the WZ, but BW still has yet to implement a reason to try to win, besides Daily/Weekly progression. Oh wait, I can look in my codex and see that I did a particular thing in a WZ. Sorta like an achievement, only it isn't an achievement if no one else knows about it.
