Am I the only PvPer who would be OK with people being GIVEN BM gear when they hit 50?

Negative.

Anyone who spend an ungodly amount of time can still show it off with aesthetics. But if "hardcore pvpers" can't beat "casual pvpers" when the gear level is equal, then perhaps the "hardcore pvpers" aren't as good as they thought.

I think the biggest problem these guys are having is that they are afraid they won't be able to measure up without having better gear than their opponents. So now rated warzones will be coming out and people will suddenly see that they aren't big scary PvP gods.

They are thinking that with 1.2, the cooler gear colors and the other aesthetic vanity rewards will suddenly be beyond their reach, because they won't be able to get the good pvp rating for that stuff.

In PvP, your progression is your rating the the prestige that goes with it.

Having my PvP roots in the first five years of Ultima Online probably fuels this "**** Gear, All Skill" mindset I have. I'm rather excited that SWTOR and GW2 are taking steps to push PvP in that direction.

I didn't even have to read your reason to know that it would probably be better to do it rather than constantly changing the system.

I agree and disagree with this issue.

The real problem here is expertise not the armor itself. To play devils advocate to most of you: you can not wear lvl 50 armor at level 40. You have to earn the levels its just the way MMO's work. Same with the pvp armor (to a point). Earning the higher end lvl 50 armor through valor isnt a bad idea, small stat increases or what not for time played, why not? Its the same as leveling a toon. Yes, its all time based.

If they removed expertise this in itself would fix most all the problems people have, (well that and fire the design team for armors.) However, what about the Rakata Gear, Colimi and what not? Do we get that in the mail too or do the rules change just because we are talking about PvP?

That all being said been playing MMOs since about a year after EQ's launch... MMMO = Timesink. Just the nature of the beast.

The followers said: "I shall QQ my lord, i shall QQ."
And since then , not a single day passed without the QQs being heard.

I think the % of people who would be ok with that is bigger than these forums would lead you to believe due to a very vocal minority that seems to plague all game forums. If it were up to skill and stats then the loot whores would have nothing to lord over people with less free time......if only we lived in a perfect world, lol.

I consider myself a competent PvPer. A lot of people in MMO's these days, however, seem to think that time invested in PvP should get you better gear, to show how good you are. This is a FLAWED argument. IMO, you should not be given -better- gear if you are a -better- pvper. Better PvPers should win through skill, not gear.

I'm happy with how the Valor system will work. Aesthetic rewards for PvPers, but keeping the gear level within attainable reach for -anyone- who wants to PvP. This way, we'll see players rise to the top because of skill, and not because of their glowing items.
I completely agree.

Rewards should be limited to "Vanity" orange gear, Titles, Consumables, Legacy Points and other such items that do not directly upset the balance of play.

It is difficult enough to balance 8 classes for PVP without throwing in the complexity of 'gear disparity'. Good luck with that...

I don't even understand 'why' they went with PVP specific gear, when their original design philosophy was: "Is it fun?"

The whole "Gear" issue has already forced them work on developing "PVP brackets", forcing 50's into their own zones and longer waiting ques, exploiting the valor system and a host of other problems I wont go in to.

Get rid of it.

I'll further add: The PVP gear looks like it belongs in WOW, not SWTOR. Steampunk Mercs??? Really bioware?? Really??

Something tells me you've been AFK the majority of the time, kill trading or some other exploit, so no....... you didn't 'earn' anything.

Playing should be your reward, your 'gear' obviously wasn't actually 'earned'.

I see no problem.

Positive.

This is a changed based off casual demand. But if you think it's "gear" that's reflecting my skill then you have a whole other ball game coming.
