Hahaha oh I so greatly agree.

I dont even play a healer and its a big pain in the *** for me. About 10 seconds after i spot random group of enemies i keep trying to click on the correct one. Feels like its a mini fps game before it turns rpg.
Everything that has a beginning, has an end.

So this was brought up in the guild summit. Here's the relevant Q&A, as quoted by redditor dulfy (Live Blogging of Guild Summit)

Quote:
Q: tab targeting improvements? clickable nameplates? A: yes we want to do them, larger boxes to click on, class based labels etc but not for 1.2
The lack of importance placed on one of the most obvious and game-breaking UI weaknesses of this game distresses me.

But at least they know about it?

This problem wouldn't be too bad for healing if you could actually figure out who the person carrying the hutball was...

its easy when the name on the screen matches the name over the person... <BoB>

click on BoB in the raid frame... profit

<Supreme Overlord and Savior of the Galaxy BoB UGwhyismylastnamesolong>

now overlap that with 6 similar names and tell me exactly how you manage to figure out the guy carrying the huttball is named BoB?

not to mention the fire/smoke/lightning/etc all obscure the name plates for some bizarre reason so you can't even always see the name plates.
I tell you this: though neither he nor they yet know it, he is the greatest of all the Jedi. Jacen Solo is the living Jedi dream. Even without the Force, he is more dangerous than you can possibly imagine."

Yup. And your backup plan (clicking on his character) is super unreliable. So your next back-up plan is, what? Maybe ctrl-tab to target next friendly, which will not give you anyone you want. Maybe a tab to target next enemy in the hope you get a guy that's attacking the guy with the huttball, so that you can assist-target in hopes of getting the huttball carrier?

It's awful.

I use the method of assuming that the guy who is taking insane amounts of damage as the most likely carrier of the Huttball. It works till I am wrong.

That is a fantastic method. Obviously, being reduced to blind guesswork increases the skillcap of the game as a whole.

When I was still playing I constantly clicked the chat box lol

And I would have to click enter to get out of it. But the General Chat would say; "Urtani:332472827ww3" or something along those lines :P

Shh...

A lot of fanboys in these forums will tell you that a proper targeting UI dumbs down the game.

As for me--
I want to see incoming heals on raid frames.
I want to see who has my bubbles in the raid frame.
I want to see who is being guarded in the raid frame.
I want to see who has agro on my raid frames
I want to see who has what debuff on my raid frame.

Guess I am spoiled by the superior grid in that other MMO which we try to avoid mentioning here.

It's probably been mentioned by now but F1 - F4 target your party members and with shift targets companions. I play a healer and this works fine, although I am not very good due to other reasons!
Never had a problem targetting enemies with tab. Sympathies to those it's not working for.
