It takes a few hours to get off the starter planet and then you're free to level with a partner 100% of the time after that. And even then, you could always choose classes that start out on the same planet if you want to start from level 1. This is a story based game. Wow is not.

If this is a problem, the answer is to add another shuttle directly to the other starter world, not cut off the ability to play with your friends from level 1.

BioWare went to great lengths is their story system so that players could also view class stories of their friends. This prevents them from seeing the beginning - the most important part.

Lazy fix. And I am certain cannot be the permanent one.

... What about your friends class story? If a Jedi comes to Ord Mantell at level one and experiences your class quests, are you then going to go to Tython to do his after?

Funny, I thought it was an MMORPG, where the main goal was a place to play with others in a static world with story added.

If this is a story with mmo added I stand corrected.

Personally, I'd like to see them add a porting ability so you can port friends directly too you. For starting areas, I like to solo without help in order to learn how to play. Thats just me though.

I don't think you would be able to do any quests in a different starting zone.

Originally you could but one of the patches turned it off. Besides you end up having to do both zones anyway since you HAVE to do your class quest if you want to progress the game. Just skip all the fluff content do your class quest and change planets to go level with your friend. It shouldn't take that long.

I wouldnt' call it a design flaw but it probably has something to do with credit farmers appearing on illum at like lvl 1.

That's up to you and your friend to decide... perhaps yes, perhaps no. Perhaps they don't care about the story.

The story gets in the way of too much MMO stuff in this game.

They can simply add a shuttle to each starter planet from the other one, heck there are already spare shuttles everywhere!

But yes you should be able to do all quests on any starter planet, other than class stories.

First off, again, you could both play troopers/smugglers or JKs/JCs and quest together from level 1.

Also, not being able to play together for the first three hours is more indicative of what type of game this is than the 30+ hours you DO play together after the initial planet....? Logic... where hast thou gone?

You have to inject some realism in your thinking. This is a story-based MMO, which results in some compromise: You can group for the story, but in practice this works best when you have shared locations (which you will, once you are past the starter planet).

For most of the story, there is a supported observer mode specifically for the purpose of sharing it with someone else. My wife and I play together (I also play solo), and it is great fun. Sharing works best if you have the same starter planet. This limits your choice somwhat, but you still have four advanced classes to pick from. If you want to have different starting planets, you can still do it once you hit Coruscant.

So you have three options to play the game:

- Solo story
- Story with a friend
- Traditional MMO with flashpoints, heroics, ops, and warzones

I play all three: Your tastes may vary, but I would much prefer having a story and strong solo options.

Now that the trial is here, it seems pretty obvious that this restriction was put into place in order to keep free trial players off the fleet. I know the restriction was put into place shortly after launch, but they were thinking ahead.
