Disagreement on the removal of alignment restrictions on color crystals

Well, the way I see it is this:

Having dark or lightside requirements on crystals contradicts canon. For example, Exar Kun was a Sith, yes? What color of saber did he have? Depa Billaba had a scarlet saber (depending on the source). While certain colors are associated with either faction, it didn't stop someone from wielding a color that is associated with the other faction.

I don't really have anything against the change.

Now, my light-side Sith Warrior can use red sabers and stop looking wrong to me.

Thank the gods. It was total B.S. that my 100% non-force sensitive Trooper was being pigeon-holed by a hokey religion.

I think the only color restrictions should be Green for Light and Red for Dark. Blue has been used by a lot of dark Jedi and some Sith.

I feel that there should be no restriction on crystals in weapons that are not lightsabers.

Now when it comes to lightsabers I am sort of on the edge. While there are exceptions to the Red=Sith Green/Blue/Yellow=Jedi, these are all significant lore heros/villans. In the end, for lightsabers, this decision should be made by Lucasfilm and not EA or the SW:TOR players. If you start going down the exceptions list then Jedi should have a ranged option to use blasters and Bounty Hunters should have the option to use lightsabers. These exceptions also exist for lore heros/villans.

Light and dark in this game is a joke totally dependent upon forced conversation choices that don't actually offer real choices in many cases, and never affect the outcome in the overall scheme of things.

Restricting colors to players based on some meaningless conversation choices is just dumb, as is having silly relics and other crap that 'requires light X or dark Y'. It is just another time waster added by the devs to give the illusion of choice and the illusion of content.

I remember back in beta;

Seemed like every Jedi and their mother used a red saber, and every Sith used blue/green. I'm speaking quite literally as well. It got to the point where people actually complained on the forums about it because it just didn't make sense

Seems like everybody wants to be "different".

I mean..

You've got your black lightsabers... you've got your pink saber.. I just hope it doesn't get to the point where I hardly even recognize this as Star Wars

exactly. i agree with this. from the get go i wanted to play my jedi knight a dark one.. and im restricted to one color what a hell?! that doesnt help role play at all. I want to go all out like anakin or exar kun, they had blue lightsabers. exar kun as a sith lord had a doublebladed blue lightsaber. ulic quel droma as a sith lord had a green one, fredon nadd had an orange one for instance. I think some items i udnerstand if they are merely cosmetic, like relics or earpieces, or speeders. Allthough color crystals are also cosmetic, represents a big part of star wars universe. And lore wise it doenst make sense.

ulic quel droma used a green one if i recall.
also i heard luke fell to the dark side in the EU so i recon green can be used by dark siders. to be true there is no reason that they cant lore wise.

well from a gameplay or rather eviroment feeling of the game, you might have a point there.
I read somewhere that i swg was everybody with a white sabers or something.

If you actually pay attention to the quests, you would see that the PCs ARE significant heroes/villains.

The weapon limitations are purely gameplay balancing. Jedi/Sith are balanced around the specific lighsaber configuration they wield, for example.
