Back to the main topic of the fleets, I felt that the fleets lack that 'epic' factor that greeted you upon your first visit, cf Stormwind in WoW. Also the lack of multiple 'capital' cities located on different planets discourages exploration, making all these planets nothing more than transient leveling phases; but then again, the fleet doesn't even have enough players on it at the moment to even justify another player-hub.

EDIT: Coruscant and Dromund Kaas come pretty close because of the population numbers, that's a good start.
Agreed.

Even darnassus looked pretty cool. Empty, but cool lol.

Dromund Kaas looks nice btw, i agree.

It's an indicative of a design approach that ends up undercutting the game on a few levels.

Nobody is ever going to feel any kind of faction pride or nostalghia for spaces with all the appeal of a Port Authority bus terminal.

During the beta Bioware asked the beta tester explicitly if there was anything wrong with the imperial and republic stations designs and layout. No one said anything.

So blame the community for not saying anything. This could have been changed but no one thought it was broken.

I agree 100%, most of those testers should be banned from testing anything else.
It feels like most of them just wanna play something which hasn't been released yet.
I wonder how many of those tester have actually bought the game.

Their possible clarification on this however must be something like it will make players easier to find and remember their sections, vendors or class specific destinations. But for me as a more critic gamer than average it is not just as simple and convincing like that..

For those people who haven't noticed yet. Just take a look at the map (press M) on either Republic or Imperial fleets. You will see that there has been a numerous iterations copy > paste of a 90 degree base design applied for the other 3/4th part of the map. Inside this 90 degree base design there is again a four multiply copy / paste iteration applied.

The most shamefull part of this is that both faction fleet designs are identical except a few cosmetic changes.
This is a great design from both a gameplay and a story/lore view. Storywise, there is no reason why space station deisgns should be that different from each other. Ita a very efficient design for starters, so why would Imperal or Republic go out of their way to reduce efficieny just to be different.

From a gameplay view people who play alts on opposite sides dont have to worry about learning a completly new and nonsensical map.

Take any of the cities in WoW. While the differences were visually interesting, some were just a huge pain to traverse. Ogrimarr was a pain to run around compared to Ironforge.

I'm happy that the fleets are identical.

It looked the EXACT same! Like everything was identical. But it was republic camp.

Really disappointed that they took such a lazy approach to this game cutting corners everywhere.

And noticable corners at that.
this.
sorry but fleet being a copy does not really bug me, but when many of the other locations are copy and paste as well...

it was a way to save time and money, thats fine with me, but where did that time and money go?
not into raid content
not into pvp
not into crafting
not into gear/customization
not into character creation
not into the UI
not into game responsiveness

guess it went into VO...

I agree the fleets lack that 'wow' factor. It's not very epic entering a tin can.

The fleets should have been more open, more panoramic space views with small fighter squadrons whizzing by and slow cap ships lumbering about.

My guess is that the fleet's limited feature set is related to game performance. If Ilum can't handle more than 80 people, then a fleet with fancy graphics would probably cause computers to explode.

I don't find Carrick Station to be a visually interesting or exciting place to visit.

I prefer the business/training areas near the Coruscant Senate Plaza, but of course it takes much longer to get there.

Hopefully, Republic engineers will replace Carrick someday with something practical, more open, and much more interesting (and add a few potted trees!).

Yeah a few more views of space would be a bit more epic, what views there are, are pretty cool though, for example when you go from the hub to other ships in the fleet. And it wouldn't even cost performance, which I understand is the main reason for the fleet being round (and incidentally also the reason for the labyrinthine designs of the cities in WoW).
