the only whine I saw was the OP crying about not being able to have access to the same gear as a group working together, and my point stands.

Solution: get your own group. To much of an anti-social neckbeard sociopath to make virtual friends and farm with your own ubar premade? Too bad, mmo gaming is not for you.

As to premades getting an advantage.. If they follow WoW's gear system, then only the good premades are going to have access to the top rated gear, and the bad premades are going to be battling it out below the minimum required rating for that gear. The good premades that do get the gear, 99% of the time will beat you anyway, even without slightly better gear. So why is everyone crying?
They are beginning to follow WoW's gear system. And many of us left WoW to find something different, not more of the same with a different skin. A gear progressing MMO is a type of MMO, not the standard, or at least it shouldn't be. Its not so much a problem as it is a dated way of looking at things. But thats neither here nor there.

People are crying because regardless if the best premades beat you 99% of the time with equal gear, people will fixate on the fact that once they have "better gear" that its because of this reason that they are losing. You and I know this isn't true, they would lose regardless. But it becomes this festering wound of people continously ************ and moaning which leads to unneeded nerfs, and sweeping balance changes etc... In the end this only hurts a game for the sake of keeping the people with more skill happy with slightly better gear because the act of pvping and having fun is not enough.

The core issue if you listen to the interview is that spending oodles of time in warzones and procuring gear is: get ready for this....

NO MEASURE OF SKILL

So...

To actually have skill a requirement to procure better gear is done by:

Ranked PvP that is CROSS-SERVER

Quote:
When you queue as a solo, you are queuing against and with people on your own server - with the same gear. As soon as you queue up as a pre-made you are queuing against the higher skilled and higher geared RANKED people in ranked cross server matches.
So... the only worry here is that these ranked guys with the best gear in the game come into solo non-ranked warzones so they can pwn noobs.

Maybe Bioware needs an inverse bolster so these people with power trips can't do this.
Level 50 Jedi Knight Guardian - Helm of Graush
Now playing <50 Scoundrel 100% PvP leveling and loving it.

UO, DAOC, EQ, SWG, WoW, WAR, and others...

hmm.......
I didn't think there were a whole lot of "competitive PvPers" left playing this game. Anyway, i highly doubt TOR will make it big as an esport. If WoW arena couldn't make it, this game doesn't have a prayer. They should just make the the premade rewards cosmetic/prestige items, like different colored armor or visual effects or titles. The majority of the playerbase (casuals) won't ram their head against a progression wall for very long without quitting, then you'll have a game on life support. Just my 2 cents.

The vast majority of casuals, who pay for the game of course, as opposed to the comparably tiny minority of hardcore players, (not even touching the laughable professional tag - unless you really do make a living off of MMOs).

The hardcore element is (1) notoriously fickle, and leaves at the drop of a hat, and (2) is way overrated in terms of impact in terms of the financial bottom line.

And I don't fall into the "baby on their lap" category by the way

Actually you are right, I do want access to the gear if my PuG works together and beats your premade.

Gear, yes...for the most part.

Advantages? Not even close.

I get your analogy but you're forgetting one critical piece of the equation, MMOs are founded upon having carrots. Without them interest wanes and people leave the game.

Don't get me wrong, I want a challenge. I want to compete on a level playing ground as much as ANYONE. But I do understand the nature of MMOs and what motivates people to play.

And frankly, I'd rather be in a game with motivated players with varying levels of gear where I can queue and get into a game in a few minutes than in a game with a TINY NICHE group of players who are perfectly balanced but it may take hours to get a queue.
Yes yes, carrots...

I'll ask the same thing I did pages ago... Why do the carrots need stats?

People like ranks, people like titles, people like exclusive status symbols. So why do they have to also have gear with higher and higher and higher stats. There are plenty of other carrots without bloated stats.

From my experience, disorganized groups or "trade chat premades" are worth little to no points in a rated battleground match. It's incredibly frustrating to fight team after team and get 0 points for wining. It's a waste of my time, and a waste of theirs, since they have absolutely no chance to win. Now if they made a solo queue only ranking system, that would be a different story. That would cost more money and time though, so they probably won't do that.

I see no mention of groups getting better gear. Sure an organized group could gear faster? Pretty sure the OP is very intoxicated on opium flowers

I am on your server and I have beaten you.
All pugs are not disorganized.
