Quite entirely agreed. I made an elaborated-upon example out of a mountain in a long post quite a few pages back. I'm not sure if many bothered to read it; it was pretty long; but it laid out my own view pretty well.

I feel safe in saying that a lot of people are sick of treadmills. I, myself, am sick of all the false competition and ego-mongery. It'd be wonderful to see systems brought into effect that encourage teamwork, and that includes systems of rewards.

I hate e-peenery. It creates false and unnecessarily overwrought premises for hugely unhelpful egotism and drives people apart. When everyone's trying to be King Purple with the Unique Hat that gets to /dance on a fencepost and waggle his private parts at passing peons...you'll see a lot of 'Eff you, got mine' between people.

You'll see people sabotage eachother, even if it gains them nothing, just so someone else doesn't get to succeed if they don't. You see people not giving a crap about other people.

Now, there's no number of systems, or quality irrespective of number, that can make people care about eachothers' success. The notion of a raid might seem to, but the gear treadmill throws one cheeseburger into a starving pen of four to sixteen people; whaddya think is gonna happen?

There will be people that try to handle things fairly, and there will be more people that get pretty ruthless and find ways to screw others if they can get away with it.

In time, I'm confident that SWTOR will have a much bigger and more engaging mountain to climb.

I hope, probably pointlessly, that they'll try a whole lot harder to foster a genuinely cooperative environment that takes the perception of competition out of a lot of this stuff. It's fine in PVP; that's kinda what PVP's about; but in PVE?

It's self destructive. It's like a cruel joke for how simplistically self-destructive it is.

The tools, the statted gear to do anything in the game at top spec, should all be within pretty easy reach.

The glorification should be put on what you do with them. What you -can- do with them. You a genuinely lazy bum that doesn't care to do anything resembling work 'cause it just don't amuse you otherwise? Fine, have rather easy access to this mismatched gear that's top statted and looks like whatever. You can roll around feeling like a champ if that's your thing, but you look kinda doldrum.

You willing to put some time in? You wanna customize your look a bit better? You willing to...do this quest chain that you can solo or do as a group but can only do one chapter of a day, and there's 12 chapters?

You willing to jump through all the hoops of getting people together to do this hardmode group content yonder? Pretty snazzy looking gear in there.

But hey, what about this succession of story-chained raids? Ten full raids in all, and each one will give you either a uniquely customizable piece of equipment that lets you pick several display options for it but also, every time you complete the whole chain, you get to pick one perk from a list: Permanent one-time +200 to a stat of your choice, a token that unlocks an augment slot on a piece of your gear, access to an NPC vendor that sells limited quantities of exotic crafting materials -- the list could go on and on and on and on and on.

--

All kinds of ways they could get people going "OH MAI GAWD I WANT THAT!" without creating a context wherein which there's any benefit to being jerks to eachother to get ahead.

I hope they do them, 'cause as it is, if you've got a good guild you're able to do anything and everything with at all times, you don't just win the game, you win MMO's.

Too bad that, to have that at all let alone retain it, you're waging a war against mutual schedules and social proximities more than the game content.

Who here signed up for an MMO because they wanted to be a business manager spending hours of your life quite possibly every day trying to schedule your staff across the calendar month, along with second string fill-ins in case of emergency drops?

--

Anything wrong with there existing content you have to aspire to that degree of sustained organization for? Nah. That can be fun in its own time too.

But there's your fate in the current model. That's your endgame.

The typical manager at McDonalds would embarass most of you that think this is great. And they get paid to put up with people that don't give a crap and just want their paycheck and -really- aren't interested in working hard out of principle for it.

Why destroy a good thing like that?

Why?
This doesn't even have anything relevant to do with the topic. I did enjoy the game (somewhat). I played it, I saw the story, I beat all the content, I got all the gear, I pvped alot, and now I am done.

Since this isn't a single player game, and it is an MMO with a subscription, there needs to be reasons for quality players and guilds to continue playing.

Maybe it is cocky to say that, that we think we are good, but what else is there to say? We were able to devour the entry content very quickly without playing very much. Now we are waiting on 1.2 with nothing to do. And if we are able to breeze through that as quickly as the pvp and pve content from this first tier......well........thats all she wrote for my guild probably.

Has absolutely nothing to do with envy, rivalry, or greed, or how nice or good a place our server is. How we play doesn't really have anything to do with that.

That is going to change with these.

1- Rated warzones.

2- Stats being kept for all to see. Good players will stand out and so will the bad ones.

3- They have talked about adding in hardcore endgame content. Hopefully they follow through with it.

4- Damage meters are being added. Will give us a way to min/max and cut out the crappy players.

There is more stuff coming but that was the stuff that will be coming first and i can not wait.

I am sure when that stuff goes live the QQing will be off the charts by the casuals.

I NEED DAT EPEEN MAN....

But seriously. I'm enjoying the game without it. I would much rather have the Arena crowd from WoW stay as far away from this game as possible.

I've seen a confirmation that personal combat logs are being added at some point. I have never seen any dev confirm any plans for damage meters. Source please?

OP has a point.

Prestige is hugely important in an MMO and often the (only) reward for hardcore players. But often that prestige and recognition is enough to keep them playing.

People used to pay upwards of 300 dollars for 2200+ arena ratings to 3rd party boosting sites and they weren't paying for the extra few stats it gained them, but for the prestige that came with it.

People used to be impressed by Battlemasters even though it was nothing but a grind.

Yet now with dozens and dozens of BM running around on each faction on every server it kind of makes it feel less special.

Hell, a guild-mate of mine grinded BM from rank 0 to rank 60 is just over two weeks. And it'll get even "easier" next week.

I'm curious, what is your reason for PvPing? What is your reason for Raiding? What makes you continue to want to go to a raid you have on farm in WoW and not in SW:TOR?

I believe you when you say you beat all the raids and got all the gear. So I ask: You got the stuff on farm in WoW you keep going and you got the stuff on farm here and you don't. Why?
