I also found that if you are empty on protons and it seems to lock up, just target something like you are going to fire a proton and it will re-enable your missiles.

Definitely a bug. Tooltip says you have FOUR proton torpedoes but you can only fire THREE.

I gave up a long time ago on that mission -- most space missions for that matter once you hit 50 are completely useless.

Unless you're a completionist of irrelevant gameplay aspects (which I think that's what most people on PvE servers probably spend their time on).

Which begs the question: what the hell do people do on a PvE server? I have downed all the PvE content; the GTN is a disaster and as of now, only Biochem is useful if you're into min-maxing; you can still queue up for WZ but I assume most PvE folks don't like to PvP hence why they rolled on a PvE server.

Anyways, I went off on a tangent but if I was a PvE-oriented player, I'd be pretty pissed (there's already barely anything to do for PvP'ers, just WZs all day long).

I believe the number displayed is the ammo you have left aside from the one loaded. Try it with missiles--I think you can shoot 1 more even when the number hits zero.

Space missions can still be done for fun and profit at 50.

Correct, there is 1 proton in the barrel and 3 in the clip.

Also, I do this mission every day. I use 1 proton for the bridge bonus and the rest for 3 shields and use regular missiles for the 4th shield. I have not seen this bug as my missiles lock on everytime, even if I have a proton reticle instead of a missle reticle.

Use the Proton Torpedos on the bridge and the generators.

Fire missiles at the other generator as you are reloading.

Done and done.

You need to hold down the right mouse button until you lock on target (you'll know when, it is obvious). Once you do, release the button and a torp will fire.

If you lose tracking on your target during the time you are trying to lock, you will have to reacquire ...

Sooo many posts in this thread have been made explaining exactly how to do this mission with the torps eqipped, I still can't believe people are trying to say this mission is bugged. It isn't bugged, bugged would mean it can not be done, it can be (refer to the many posts in this thread explaining how). It is just a different style/way of doing the mission, just because you can't just fire some missiles, fire 1 torp at the bridge and call it a win, doesn't mean it is bugged or not beatable.

It actually makes it interesting to me

I have done every space mission EASILY without them.. is there a good reason to use them?
