I say its a matter of manners.

My server got taken over by Russians (and no, I don't have anything against them), however, when general chat is 70% Russian sentences and words.. that gets you. Most English speaking guilds that were there at the start, are not there any more, one can say, they lost the will to fight.

When I join a warzone, 60% of the time people will call for help and incomings on Russian. Now, a simple question for you guys. Why is it only Russians? They like to invade servers and call them theirs?

I have not seen a single Italian, or Danish, or Swedish word on my server yet, only Russian? Huh. Must be Russian only thing! Get in there, start speaking Russian, call it our place. Mission accomplished!

Manners people, please.

Seriously, its not about making people 'conform' its about common decency. If you go to another country to live you damn well learn the language. You play on their server you write in their language.
That's your opinion...which you can't force someone else to have, so learn to deal with disappointment.

Dont understand why thats so hard to comprehend, or why its so offensive?
No, I don't. Just like you don't understand that demanding other people behave to your expectations is the height of arrogance.

Frankly your english is better than most of the people I have to deal with daily at work, and supposedly they are 'natives'.

I do so hate that word.
Maybe because I'm American and speak English as my first language. When I see people speaking another language in a chat channel or hear other languages being spoken around me, I don't immediately jump their case and start calling them pejorative terms in an attempt to coerce them through shame and ridicule to conform to my way of behaving.

The person above me has made my point perfectly.

A supposedly 'English' server is now the (un)offical Russian server. Anyone who wants to play on that server needs to understand Russian in order to be able to play with anyone else.

No one when joining the supposedly 'English' server knows this until they have already played on it for a while. This is detrimental to the enjoyment of paying customers who have joined a server to play an MMO, only to find out they cannot do the MM part because despite their joining and ENGLISH server they need to learn russian.

If you looked at the bit in the quotes you would have noticed I wasnt aiming that bit at you.

its the scousers I cant understand!
I only said that to show how pointless the arguement is, seeing as most ppl probably just space-bar through the alien-speech, thus, ignoring it but can't do the same in gen-chat

and yeah....scousers/glaswegians...basically anyone from N.England/Scotland (and i live in Wales....try understanding roadsigns and thier over-use of consonants - Dyw un iaith byth yn ddigon)

eeek....quick edit before the 'droid' thinks ive insulted someone in a odd-language

Dyw un iaith byth yn ddigon = Welsh - translates to 'one language is never enough'

Got ya.

Feel sorry for your with the welsh signs. Where I live any official signs are written in 6 languages, bizzarely enough sometimes English isnt the first one! Apparantly they order the sign in the order that the service is used. 'Welcome to Accident And Emergency' is actually 3 down the list under the urdu and arabic signs...

funny you mention that (urdu etc), cos you don't hear of English people complaining about signs written in many languages in the UK with English being on there somewhere BUT if someone types in thier native language in chat in a GAME, the forums explode with outrage

Oh trust me you do.

Never read the Daily mail? Its one of their biggest complaints, if its ever a slow news day they always wheel it out, I think they have to keep a few stories waiting if they need to fill a space.

I don't see the OP's problem. If someone says something in public chat that you don't understand - how is that an offence? On the European servers, especially the English ones people from all across Europe come together. I find it absurd to expect them to not use their own language in public. It wouldn't be a mark of a healthy community if everyone was forced to neglect their own culture and adapt to what is convenient to native English speakers.

In a game such as EVE Online no one would complain just because people discuss something in Cyrillic characters, presumably Russian. I don't see why it would be any different here.

EvE has ONE server and is an Icelandic game. There are no 'language' based servers, it doesnt work like that, its also not a game where you have 'flash points' or other grouping instances.

Also, you cant end up with 'unoffical' servers which are supposedly english, but end up full of XXXX speakers because everyone plays together.

Just because someone puts a label on the server doesn't mean that people whose first language is not English are not meant to play there. It just means that everyone is expected to speak and understand English to a degree. It makes sense for the communities of languages that wouldn't just own servers pool together on one server - alone so that they can form competing, big guilds there.
