Dark side/light side points cap

What is the OP talking about?! I've gotten Light V(10k) and then some dark points and then some light again and I went back to 10 000 light and 0 dark. It's not like Mass Effect where you can have both.

Let's say I have 5000 light and then I get 1000 dark. I will be at 4000 (5000Light - 1000Dark). Now let's say I get 2000 Light more. I will be at 6000 (7000Light - 1000Dark). However if I get 4000 Light more I will be at the max, 10 000 (10000Light and 0 Dark). Once you reach the max light, it starts subtracting from the dark. Simple. You CAN get to Light V or Dark V even if you took the opposite choice decisions.
Something, something, something, dark side.
Something, something, something, complete.

There is a dark side/light side points cap.
In order to achieve dark/light side rank you need to have a cap of these points and no points of different alignment. Thus aquiring any points of opposite alignment will cause you to be unable to ever reach dark/light side rank V.

Also it also causes your moral choices from once you are capped to have no impact on your character alignment (you can only get further away from it but only to point of total neutrality).

Frankly I believe this to be a tremendous mistake. While I almost absoluteley love this game and am defending it on almost every occasion (I'm very pleased by both the game and customer support so far) I see that as a huge, enormously big flaw.

First of all it makes light side/dark side choices more about being forced to stick to predefined path, without any customization into your toon morals. At least not if you want to access highest tier alignment gier. So basically if you have ever aquired any points of ooposite alignment your toon is gimped.

Second is being unable to shift alignment once capped. A Jedi can never fall, a Sith can never get redemption.

I can understand reason for a cap. But IMO you should be able to move towards full dark/light side. It could be done just by deducting newly aquired points from your opposite alignment and then adding them to chosen one. Maybe at slower rate. Just not at percantage system as this would make reaching max impossible.

I believe there are many players who have, in some degree, mixed alignment. They won't be EVER able to use highest tier relics.
Also, one mistake on alignment option will cause them to be forever unable to use highest tier relics.

It's irreversible choice which does affect endgame play.

Share your oppinions. Maybe BW will ackowledge the problem and make some changes.
yeah i agree with this 100%
BW should change this soon coz when i play this game it feels like real life choices and in real life no matter what u do, you can get the best stuff if u have the cash.

So I decided to make a 2nd toon, this time I would ignore lightside vs Darkside choices and just pick want I wanted to pick, the choices I liked. Soo I'm at level 27 and pretty much neutral alignment and not even close to being able to get a relic. So why am I being punished for playing the game the way it's supposed to be played? I mean the other choice I have is to simply pick choices based on if they are dark or light, not because I want to pick it. It's like bioware is saying hey YOU make the choices but well if you end up being neutral, well toughluck.

In the end, you have a choice wether to let the guy live or die. Do you let him go because you feel your character would let him go, or do you kill him because you need the darkside points.

So is there a cap or not? I've read about 4 pages, and both sides keep contradicting each other. Is there a cap or not?

Yes, there is a cap. It sits at 10000 points for both Light Side and Dark Side, and I could have sworn someone already stated it on the first page.

Also, that's quite the necro you've got there.

This guy is correct.

I was full 100% dark side til my agent ending. I was 10,000 dark then I went to 9,900 dark and 100 light, then made another dark side decision later in an FP and went to 10,000 dark and 0 light

This is false. You can still easily reach max dark/light if you have some opposing points. Simply when your light and dark points add up to 10k and you start gaining more points, the opposing points will start disappearing. Example:
200 dark side points / 9800 light side points.
You gain 100 light side points, you end up with 100 dark side points / 9900 light side points.

I have reached max light side, then went all the way to dark side (to get both LS and DS pets & mounts) then went all the way back to light side.

(Edit) But anyway I just looked at the date and it seems that someone managed to dig up a very very old thread, in which the Op was just a newbie and had no idea what he's talking about.

If you get to 10,000 light alignment and have 500 dark alignment that puts your alignment at 9500 light. Getting more light side points will then eat away at the dark side points until you reach 10,000 alignment.

The people who created this thread were just too stupid and impatient to keep going and figure it out for themselves.

Btw, good going on necroing up a 9 month old thread.
