ok ...im not goin to explain it all , but an overly simplified explanation of why they wouldnt work given what we know about LIGHTsabers ...

they focus light , on a beam , laser , whatever you wanna call it , and pretty much do so with so much intensity that they cut through anything...

given that there is not a single liquid that we know of that doesnt distort and refract light with its molecules , i think , if anything , it is feasible that they wouldnt work , or shouldnt work ..underwater

but lucas decided to ignore that in lieu of making a movie/entertainment , i dont blame him but thats sort of how light behaves/interacts with water , wich is the reason why you see the sky as blue and not black, because molecules in our upper atmosphere refract and diffuse the light giving the sky that lovely blue color, also they reason why you cant see starts at day even if they are there and should be visible but they arent

I have never enjoyed swimming in any game.

It's a complete waste of resources to put it in and I'm glad they left it out. Also if you haven't noticed swimming is not a feature in most BW games.

So I don't see a problem with the inclusion of swimming on those points.

Furthermore, it could be argued that the omision of swimming in the game attributes to diminishing the entire experience of feeling like you are IN the Star Wars universe. After all, swimming is experinced in the movies (Phantom Menace), animated series, comics and other Star Wars games. Possibly in books too.

Swimming and water is integral to both the Star Wars universe and our own. That is why the inclusion of swimming in deep water can actually assist with the illusion of it feeling "real". After all, that is entirely why these games use 3D graphics: to give the illusion of being INSIDE a gameworld.
..... so breaking real world physics makes the game feel more real?

Sorry no swimming IS NOT integral to the SW universe or really even ours.

My point is that there are situations whereby "real world" physics may not actually apply. Especially in a fictional universe. It all depends on the author's whim.

For instance, if LA made an episode in which lightsabers and some blasters can be used underwater, then that's pretty much a fact. And the simple fact is, they have. So what happens in the real world is irrelevant.
Well, since we're going that route:

The episode in Clone Wars happens many thousands of years AFTER our present game world era.

So maybe the tech hasn't been developed. Also, the only "swimming" in the movies was waist deep. So, that would be the same as well, since LA applied that to the lore?

I was plopping the lightsaber physics link down.... because some people are interested in such things and the conversation warranted it. (Can they be used underwater?)

No need to be a d-bag.

There's an ocean on Alderaan... You hit exhaustion zone pretty fast, but it's there.

I don't trust the CEOs of any of the three, your point being? I didn't mention any particular single CEO.... I referred to them in the plural. PLURAL. More than one. Several. Multiple.

Really?

Instead of thinking Bioware ignored swimming just cause it would save resources(time and money) to just exclude it. . .since there's probably a very small minority that would actually care about it?

But you know?

You guys crack me up.

Personally I don't care, it's not like swimming is going to make or break the game. And if it was in there, you'd just see trolls complaining that they spend time and money developing an uber cool swimming system rather than focused on something else.

phantom menace. they swim. not hip deep.

but really, what made make one of few posts is "or really even ours"...

you should think more before you type.

How is swimming Not Integral to our universe? I...I just don't get people like you. Some people make their LIVING SWIMMING! are you just being dense? Or are you just dense? If I'm making fun of someone...that's it's not PC to make fun of I'm so sorry. But I just realized you may be typing with help.

and to the op.
MMO's are supposed to be fully fleshed living breathing worlds. The fact that we can't swim breaks immersion. Failure. Can't cast immediately after moving either.

No MMO released in 2012 should have as many missing elements. Personally I'm back to AoC LOL.
