Nobody in the Galaxy can swim

Just something that has been bothering me lately. Not one planet in the entire galaxy has water deeper then my ankle. I know it's this way because BW probably didn't know how to program something deeper that would need swimming for characters.

It is just funny to me that there is literally zero deep water areas. Even the lake/river on Alderaan is so shallow you walk on the waters surface.

Yeah I was pretty speechless when I realized there were no lakes, oceans or any deep water of any kind.

True story: There weren't any effects at all when moving through water for most of the beta. The sounds and splash effects were very late additions to the game.

To be honest, though, I don't really see the need for swimming. There's nothing out there to do/see anyway.

I heard/read somewhere that it may be because the game engine can't handle it.

OP, sadly this was something that was brought up many times prior to launch and Bioware tried to laugh it off by pointing out how someone would probably not want to swim in water on places like Hoth or Hutta. Or that there is little water on Tatooine. And yet, there's places like Alderaan which has bodies of water that look very inviting.

And that's before you think about "iconic" planets in the Star Wars lore that heavily involve water such as Kamino, Manaan and Mon Cal to name but a few.

Being able to swim in an MMO adds more emphasis on the third dimension. It allows for more exploration. More activities. Different types of environments.

Sadly, the devs decided otherwise.
Supporter of having the following in the game:
Full Control Space Combat, More Playable Species (not unlockable),
Swimming, Sitting In Chairs, Planetary Day / Night Cycles and other MMORPG elements
MMO's are not meant to be films, and neither should they be movie-studio set tours

I'd love to see the source for that information, I need a good laugh.

The current version of the HeroEngine is apparently fully capable of handling swimming:

So if the 3 year old version that Bioware bought can't handle it, god help them.

haha thats good stuff. sound's like bioware to me. I guess they didn't watch any of the prequels while creating this game since Obi'wan was in water A LOT swimming around all furry and homeless looking.
