Are androids and Iphones declared as "required" for playing this game?

In last Q&A session there was one thing that seemed strange to me. I'd love to have some clarifications about this matter.

Quote:
LthalSavy: Will there be any way to implement a quick travel to your ship?

Georg Zoeller: Not in the short term, but it's something we've been discussing on and off. Currently, given how easily available fleet travel passes are on the Security Vendor, we don't think adding this is necessary.
Security vendor is avalible to those who use authentificator system. Authentificator system is avalible to those who use Idevices or androids(for free afaik). It also exists as small physical thing (for price afaik) which seems not to be avalible to all the countries, that may OFICIALLY buy and use this game. It is not mentioned among goods for my region, neither on the site (swtor.com), nor in origin store SWTOR page - client and timecards are all they offer.

So, following the simple logic - unless I buy myself an I-device\android device, I'll NEVER get an access to important in-game feature (Fleet Pass). Though I pay same subscribtion. And we are talking not about some rare mounts or pets or holodancers or special outfits. We are talking about NEEDED in-game feature here.

Everyone gets a Fleet Pass with an 18 hr cd. I believe the Security Key vendors have one with a shorter CD.

Oh yes it's shorter, indeed. It's 60 mins afaik. They can do whatever they like and move to FP or GTN as they need it. I can move to fleet once per day, same way as all those who do not want or (as in my case) can not use authentificator.

nope its not required to have one. You can also buy the $4 keygenerator. To the people who are going to freak out about that the generator is to protect your account from YOURSELF. Also, it's $4 so dont freak out like a child.

The extra fleet pass, if it is on a separate CD timer, is available at the security vendor as an enticement to protect your account with a random numeric sequence.

Customers that have safe accounts put in fewer trouble calls and are less likely to quit due to someone running off with their stuff.

If the security vendor fleet pass is made available to everyone, that enticement becomes less enticing.

Androids, iphones and key fobs aren't "required" as you imply in your title, they are simply a means by which the company can reduce support costs.

Nonavailability of the fob in your region (possibly due to laws regarding encryption?) or your choice not to own a particular brand of smartphone doesn't mean that the requirement to receive the enticement should be waived as that simply isn't fair to the rest of use that have to put in another code every time we log into the game or forums.

Your frustration may further be exacerbated once they get around to implementing a crew skill app for iphone/pad and androids.

I have the security vendor open have haven't felt the NEED to drop a lousy 1k on the fleet pass yet.

Patience is a virtue, especially if you don't have an android/iphone

No, because the Fleet Pass with a shorter cooldown is NOT a REQUIRED part of the game.

It's a convenience. Moving more quickly to your ship or to the fleet is a convenience and a luxury, not a requirement for the game. Most planets have a shuttle that can take you to the fleet (for Flashpoints) and they are adding in the ability to skip planetary orbiting stations to get back to your ship.

The short-CD Fleet Passes are a reward to encourage people to use security devices that help protect their accounts. This allows BioWare to spend less time dealing with stolen accounts and similar security issues -- which is a financial boon for them. So a non-essential reward is associated with this. If you don't/cant' use it, then you'll have to spend an extra five minutes of your life getting from one place to another.

Can you read? I CAN NOT buy one, not for 4$ not for 40$. They DO NOT SELL it to me.

And OFFICIAL Q&A thread states that they are not going to implemend an extra features, just because fleet pass from security vendor works perfectly fine.

I am not going to discuss how much this feature is needed here (but since they managed to answer this question - looks like it IS, not only for me).

I have plain facts here. What official person stated actually is NOT correct. And it also means that their customers service and in-game features (for some reasons one hardly can explain) depend on brand and model of cell-phone and\or on location where customer lives.

Wrong. We are not talking about extra utility that allows you to work with GTN and\or crew skills. We are talking about IN-GAME feature, isn't it obvious? You really can't tell the difference?

Fleet passes are convienience items. The 1 hr passes are an additional benefit of having the security key.

You can get an android simulation for your computer and run the app there.
