I know it isn't & I expected the BioWare Devs to be truthful to not lead anyone on that SWTOR will be like SWGalaxies. At that nearly 1st time BioWare has at a gaming convention promoting SWTOR, one of the Doctor's & a lady VP working at LucasArts got on a stage & announced to the gaming press & the world that "Everybody gets a playership!"

After that grandiose Playership presentation & video, they opened the floor to questions & every question about playership's was asking if we could decorate & customize them & BioWare said yes we will, not at launch but soon. Yes, you can decorate your playerships, we promise you that you can real soon!

Damion Schubert is the only Dev that stepped forward & gave a truthful technical answer that is also, annoyingly, the opposite answer given by every other BioWare dev that has ever been asked this question.

But I see the problem, you are ignorant about who is actually working at BioWare Austin, about how many MMO vets that have worked on some many different MMO titles were just looking for a new project in Austin when BioWare scooped them up to work on a brand new Star Wars MMO. Damion worked on Meridian 59 & UO, Dallas worked on SWG as did so many other of the Dev team, lots of them worked on sandbox MMORPG's.

Well, this is nice that crafted custom gear can get an augment slot on a crit; but what about the sheer tons custom gear that is not crafted but gained through lockboxes/rewards/commendations/drops? People wearing these will be left out in the cold because those items would never get an Augment slot.

So I am still hoping for a means to allow people to craft Augment Slots onto existing gear (like an 'Augmentation Device'); otherwise it will simply shoe-horn everyone into only using crafted gear and looking like clones (with augment slots).

So instead of evening the playing field for everyone, you're simply shifting the problem.

First when we wanted the best performance, we all have to look like clones in our endgame pve gear. So you guys want to open up the Armoring slots and set-bonus and such for people to put in their custom gear. Awesome! Now we can look like we want to look, with the best mods and set-bonus from the endgame gear.

But now you guys apparently say that crit-crafted gear will have an augment slot. So this simply creates the exact same problem all over again.

Having an 'Augmentation Device' consumable would allow people to use them and attach Augment Slots to their favorite gear and everyone will look the way they want to look whilst also having the potential of matching their gear to endgame stats.
They have this system in place already & were using it in beta, the device is called a modulator mod or something such & it was supposed to allow you to add a slot to orange modded gear to make them on par with purple modded gear. Then in the beta they wiped all the good things out about the item mod system & left us the mess we've been stuck with since launch.

There never was a good official explanation for why all the much liked extra item modification features were removed in beta & haven't been put back into the game yet. Oh, to play SWTOR & not have your character looking like a paintball victim, you could actually do that in beta.

i would have to re watch some of that but i dont remember bioware EVER stating "real" soon to any of that. they did state that you would be getting some options, and that the final details as to what options those were hadnt been decided. i dont see anything damion said is contradictory to anything else bioware has stated in terms of what will be available eventually.

also, im kinda curious about why you seem to think that just because some of the dev team had worked on previous sandbox games that this would also be one? generally "social" options are limited in themepark games because they want you off riding the rides. personally thats the very reason why i dont overly care for most sandbox games, if i wanted to sit in a bar and sing kumbaya with people, ill head to the bar. its the same argument against a great many of the mini games people want slapped into this. if i want to play cards/chess/race/etc ill play a game thats actually optimized to do those things.

Damion Schubert: We have an internal strike team that is fully devoted to ensuring that the game runs better and faster, especially on low end machines, and we consider this team's work to be a crucial internal initiative. You should see evidence of this work as soon as Patch 1.1.5, when we will be introducing a new 'very low' setting to shader quality, which should drastically increase the number of mid-to-low machines the game can run well on, especially in Warzones and Operations.
Ok, but I shouldn't have to set my graphics settings to low if I have no lag/latency issues in warzones but I do in Ilum when there's only 30 to 40 people tops fighting! I would be understanding if I saw problems with three to four full ops groups fighting three to four enemy ops groups, but when there's barely a full ops group fighting another one I shouldn't have two second lag.

Sure, dodge the main issue as you go on about how you don't want a sandbox game.

Damion gave a real reason for why we can't customize our playership yet & for why we probably won't be able to do all that much customization & decorating in our playerships in the future. That's a Hell of a better answer than what every other Dev has said on playership decoration & customization.

It's like he's the only real professional MMO developer working at BioWare Austin. The guy is always kind & courteous, never trolls bad behavior, he thinks about what he's going to say when answering a question & tries his best to give as much detail so we the gaming players can understand the passion he feels as a gaming creator working on SWTOR, he rarely gives out information that is contradicted by other Devs like so many of the other Devs do.

It's the BioWare Devs that are dying to put in decoration & customization features in playerships, obviously they're not trying very hard to make this a 100% Themepark game with no sandboxy elements in it at all.

I am happy to see more questions answered, including the one I'd been asking the last couple weeks.

But one thing somewhat bothers me in this Q&A. The mention of new emotes in the Legacy system. That is the LAST thing I want to see in the legacy system. For cosmetic goofy social stuff like emotes, that is what we have social ranks for in SWTOR.

It's been my impression that the Legacy levels were supposed to be a form of on-going leveling. "Alternate Advancement" if you will. I have been expecting tangible rewards that are both functionally useful and promote playing alt characters.

I expect to see things like unlocking new playable races (like Nautilans or Cathar).

Cross faction mailing (within your own characters).

A vehicle speed increase for all of your characters.

A 5% bonus to leveling experience.

A quicktravel to ship ability.

Multi-spec function (unlocked at a high legacy level).

Enable sprint to be trained at level 1.

Share your planet maps across all your characters.

And so on, with perks like that. THAT is what I have been expecting and hoping for from the Legacy system. I will be very dissapointed if it's just filled with dumb cosmetic stuff like emotes and other things that should be part of the social rank system.

I was really happy about being able to add endgame mods to Orange gear to keep my character looking however I want, but with the reveal of crit-crafted Orange items I'm a bit disappointed that I'll have to look for crafted Orange pieces in order to get the extra augment boost. I really like my Primeval Paragon set but unfortunately that isn't crafted.
