I think I know what's causing poor FPS for some users (no fix yet)

Well, I just made my game a little more playable, I am running very low spec with an nVIDIA card,

I got fed up with the in-game settings, they just don't seem to work.

Soo, I downloaded the latest Driver, then went into the nVIDIA control panel and made damn well sure that it's NOT set to "let the 3D application decide", in other words made sure it's on "use the advanced 3D image settings"

Then I forced Vertical Sync to off, ie "Force off"

Few other changes that push it in the direction of performance, rather than pritty and BINGO, it's running much much better.

I still have "stutter" when other players turn up, but it's not as bad, and I can open and close bags/char screen without getting that horrible game stop, the fps still spikes, but its not as bad.

So, I almost have a playable game on a really crappy PC, lol.

Bioware just mentioned a "Strike Team", so if your listening Bioware (probably not), your primary focus in terms of getting it running well on low spec PC's should be Draw Distance, ie you need to give the player the ability to adjust Draw Distance, (and testing it to make it sure it works, would be a good idea, lol).

When I'm on Tat questing, I don't need to see for 300 miles, all I need to see is the area around ME, pritty views are for the Core i5, i7 guys, they paid the money, let them have a nice view, but Low Spec don't need that, so just let us turn it down.

I must admit, I did lol a bit at "Strike Team", what are they like the SAS ?,

I heard a guy in game a few days ago bragging about how he runs the game in forced 16x antialiasing on a single HD6870. That's a $150-179 card LOL!

Needless to say, he was greeted with a giant wall of flames by the other people in General Chat.

Here's my prediction - as soon as D3 hits - this game is over. No one will be waiting around because of SWTOR's "potential." D3 will be merely the first domino.

The first two I can get behind and agree. The third one....I would rather not have a game than play a panda....

I was in the beta starting early August and performance was worse then. It improved before launch and has been about the same since.

One of the first things I said to myself after playing SWTOR was that it was a good game and had good storytelling and content, but the HeroEngine engine stinks. I'm sorry, it does.

I can run other games with much more detail at 10-15 degrees Celsius cooler and with better performance than SWTOR.

I can run WoW in DX11, maxed out graphics (I realize it's a different game and engine) and get 60 FPS and my CPU runs at 38-44 max Celsius. I can even run Rift better and that game is gorgeous. I log into this game and it's already at 48 and caps around 55C. My GPU fans starts cranking like a hair dryer. The game makes my PC go into overdrive. Crazy.

I'll be staying away from any more HeroEngine games in the future.

I hope they fix this issue before the next new mmo releases within the coming months.
