Which, seems to be far more realistic.
Yes, "I think it’s safe to say that the total all-in investment in ‘Star Wars’ is probably approaching half a billion dollars,” is much more realistic. Hey, he doesn't cite any sources and just makes a number up out of thin air through some shoddy analytic of how EA spends their money, but it's much more realistic.

The sources you people cite are completely incredible.

If you don't want standard MMO features that have been part of the genre since inception, then go play Hello Kitty Adventure Island.
Meanwhile, in Tera general chat -

"The sad thing is, arguing with fanbois on the forums was more entertaining than their 300 million dollar single player MMO from 2008"

World of Warcraft
WOW has had SEVEN years to add content. SWTOR has had two months. Can you imagine how much better this game will be even a year from now? But I digress.
Does anyone remember the awful lag issues WOW had at launch? I sure as hell do. Many servers were crashing for a long period of time over and over. Lag, loot lag, falling through the world, etc. Queue times were often an hour or more. The game was often unplayable at times until WOW had time to fix hardware issues. SWTOR has actually done better than WOW in this regard. WOW actually had to give some people free days because the lag was so bad and the servers were so unstable.
I think WOW had one or two raids? There weren't any battlesgrounds. There weren't a lot of things.

(blah blah blah WOW was released in 2004 SWTOR should have all the features it does blah blah blah ) No, it shouldn't SWTOR is a unique game that will add it's own content.

I personally love this game. I sincerely enjoy playing it. Those who don't are more likely to be vocal about it on the forums. I never see any of this "I hate SWTOR" chat in game.
Launch is a difficult time for ANY MMO, and SWTOR has actually done better than just about any MMO I've seen before.

This game isn't WOW and it never will be. Don't expect it to have all the features you love from WOW 2 MONTHS after launch. Give this game time to work out the few bugs there are and add a bit of content over the upcoming months and this will be the best MMO there is. Bottom line, MMOs take time to develop and add content and this is one of the smoothest MMO launches I've been around.

I was having the same ideas even before i read your article ! i totally agree with you just give bioware some time and its gona be the number 1 MMO ever !

World of Warcraft...
So you talk down to people about being around for other launchs and then all you can offer up is WOW?

Seriously?
Seriously?
Seriously?

Who cares what WOW did or had.

Do you compare a new 5 star restraunt to the local McDonalds or do you find other 5 star restraunts to use as a comparrison?

I been around for 21 years and seen more launchs then you can even list Im betting and here some facts for you!

Prior to WOW, people didnt complain about MMORPG end games because most people had not reached the MMORPG end game, they were still focused on their characters and immersion and enviroment. So they didnt complaint if EQ had how ever many years to add content to their games because the players hadnt seen all the content in their new game.

TOR Launch was one of the worst Ive ever been through. It was complete and utter amatuer hour and there was absolutely no excuse for the choices that were made in the pre launch and launch.

Fact that some of you new players (last 7 years) thinks it was this great and smooth launch is really quite depressing and shows how far the MMORPG genre has fallen and been dumbed down. I honestly can not think of a single developer that would have made a showing of packing up and going home nightly at 3:30 pm during the pre launch and launch of a game. Prior to WOW, that egotistical display wouldnt even be contemplated, much less actually done like it was for TOR.

I could go on but its clear Im talking about concepts and things you havent encountered or dont understand because your MMORPG experience started and ends at 7 years and WOW.
WOW didnt make this genre.
WOW didnt save this genre.
WOW didnt even help this genre.
If you ever find yourself making a post about the history of MMORPGs and you find yourself starting with the the letters WOW, do yourself a favor and stop there and move on as you simply dont know the history of this genre.

Its like a so called historian speaking to the world with the opening line
"and the Earth, having been built in 1950, as wikilinks shows us..."

As for two months old, 1 day, 2 months, 5 years, the real issues plagueing this game are in the design and developement and time doesnt fix those issue.

So who cares if its 2 months or 10 years.

Bad design choices are bad design choices.

Period.
In regards to lessening F2P and Preferred restrictions
In GAMING, as in LIFE,
You get what you pay for
No game restriction is so dire that $15.00/month will not eliminate it

time?? to do what exactly?? patch in things that should have been there from the start

I don't give a rats *** what wow was like at launch, that was 7 years ago, I care about wow today, vs this game today, it doesn't deliver, they had 5 years to see what were the basics of mmos, what was considered standard, they didn't live up to it, and you say give them time?? way to enable the mediocre game to stay mediocre
George Lucas: "Well, it’s not a religious event. I hate to tell people that. It’s a movie, just a movie."
Rabid fanboy's are why Lucas won't make anymore Star Wars films, cancelled account already

Everquest I

There will be many years before WoW offers that much endgame content, Everquest 1 does.

Where did I say perfect??? I didn't, when people complain about the game, most people go on about well at launch of this other game it was worse blah blah, you release a game TODAY it better be ready to compete with the current genre that is out there, because YOU WILL BE COMPARED to current date and time, they had 5 years, 5 years to see what others had done, and were doing or were going to do in the future
they seemed to have not paid attention to much, and were just having nerdgasm's over the voice acting, that gets old and boring after you hear it for a minute, then you space bar thru it all

To everyone:
You can't compare an MMO to a new car
You can't compare an MMO to a new single player game
You can't compare an MMO to an MMO that has been out for 7 years.
You can't compare an MMO to anything that it has been compared to.

That is all.

They have had 5-7 years of development MONEY. DO YOU UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPT OF MONEY? EA will NOT give BW money for development until TOR itself MAKES MONEY. Why can't you people understand that.
