ArchAge is using the Cry 3 Engine.

This is the same engine which was used for Crysis 2.

Unreal 3 is so far untested on MMO environment except for TERA (released last year in APAC, yet to be released in US/EU). We don't know how it handles really large grps of players.

On the other hand--

The financially most successful MMO in history wrote and use their own game engine.
And CCP wrote their own engine for EVE which even to this day of bitter vets like me, still one of the most popular niche MMO's to come out. And Planetside 2 is being made I believe with a new engine (and it's actually going to look modern and utilize DX11 features) and looks like its going to be good. But then again Planetside is all about PVP with no NPC's at all but still.

Entropia Universe made the switch to Crysis 3 engine I believe as well and that game looked pretty good. But that game is the ultimate sandbox/player run game, a lot different. But there are quite a few games out there that don't rely on cookie cutter engines to do their thing and do just fine, especially on way way WAY lower budgets than TOR.

And don't forget--SOE is behind Planetside--Sony seems to be even better than EA at killing off MMOs.
Why no dual spec? Are dailies only for the DPS classes?
Why do folks not want addons because "they play the game for you", yet don't say a thing about companions.

Exactly!!

If you are planning on being a big player on the MMO market, you are better off with building from scratch up. And don't give me time constraint as an excuse.

Hero Engine is untested, unproven -- doesn't have any popular successful game releases to boast about. I am confident that choosing the Hero Engine was a EA driven sales decision and not a Bioware dev driven engineering decision.

Unreal Engine is one of the best engines ever made, it is so scalable and runs very well on a gigantic variety of systems. Mass Effect 2 and 3 use Unreal Engine as well.

You are confident right. Sadly you are wrong. When swtor began development and the game engine decisions were made. EA had not yet bought out BioWare.

Then there's no excuse for screwing up.
