Did this game deliver on the hype?

I don't know...

I don't think this game is bad. In fact (since I'm still leveling) I think it is quite good, but it is starting to grow a bit stale for me.

Aside from having the dungeons and group quests available, there is no real motivation to meet new people. The conventions are in place to do so but I think we need more.

I know the LFD tool is a big issue with people but I think that's what really delayed the staleness factor for me with WoW. I always had something to do everyday and it was a matter of minutes to get into the group content.

But when being forced to literally find people and look for a group (knowing that this was how MMOs used to operate) I find myself giving up after 30 min.

The solo content is excellent but I think I realized that I'm getting bored when the Mass Effect 3 demo came out. It was then that I figured out that all I do in TOR is log in to a different class and play through my story. Without the distraction of MMO conventions, Mass Effect 3 is an extremely awesome experience. It made me realize that I'd much rather play that game than play my class story in TOR.

LOL ok. This may shock you but some people do need to upgrade their pc from time to time. I know my wifes computer needs more RAM to play this game smoother. She also doesnt really play games until this one came out because she actually likes it.

I'll leave my mixed opinions out of it. MMO success can be measured by how many subscriptions it can maintain over its duration. It's still early to gauge that accurately. However, there has been severe attrition since the initial launch of the game. This is a very unforgiving industry- they have already failed to propel themselves into crazed success like Blizzard's WoW did. That isn't to say that they can't be successful. Rift is doing very well, for example. Unfortunately, these past 2 months have demonstrated to me that BW and EA are just not as capable in the MMO arena as some other developers. I think this game will net a tremendous loss financially. There's just nothing to it other than the stories. The stories are great, but MMOs are about sustainable gameplay.

This is the best single player "MMO" I have ever played. Not sure what was hyped.

well based off of the most factual data we have been presented with they have retained roughly 85% of its playerbase and the game is the fastest growing mmo of all time...... so your claim of severe attrition doesnt seem very accurate but if you have some hard data to disprove what I have read then by all means, please share.

Numbers can be adjusted to make things look better than they are. If you look at all the servers who are now low pop and they fact they adjusted the margin to a lower threshold around Feb 3. This game isn't what they are saying it is. That reaction was because of the stock report by one of the major SE Firms.
