Do people prefer F2P MMOs?

In most cases no, only game where I felt it was fair was DDO/LOTRO both run by Turbine.

All other F2Ps I have tried so far have been scams in a sense. You end up paying a lot more money then if you had a normal sub.

Look at Everquest. They recently went "F2P" -- This is the business model for F2P that you are going to start seeing with MMOs'.

Go over and look at the plans. If you want to even be able to SEND AND RECEIVE MAIL INGAME, you must pay!

And DCUO's community is just scary stupid since it went F2P. It is ridiculous.

People who are crying for SWTOR to go F2P have no idea what they are talking about.
Khryn, Rex'sun, Xhiryn, and variations of such.

Well, I've played WoW, AoC, among other P2P MMORPGs and let's just say that $15/month will not stop most undesirables from playing a sub game if they want to play it.

there is nothing to "pay to win" about DDO's system. you unlock char slots, consumables, social items and zones. There is no PVP really in DDO either tho, no DPS meters, no DMB....no wonder people didnt like it :P

the only win in the Free to play DDO is....did we complete the quest/dungeon/raid? yes? win, no? try again.

I played Perfect World International for a couple years and started in there beta.

There setup was pretty awesome imo and the game definitely wasn't all little kiddy's lol.

The game was pretty hard and the cs items weren't a power thing yet and i stress yet. You could buy charms that would refill your health and mana when they hit 0 so everyone would have them and this was a cs item.

Various clothing and want not tons of fluff items and then the other big one dragon orbs to give your gear + in stats which was a %&*@$ to use One, fail and your level would reset.

The good thing was there you could trade in game coin for cs gold.

So after working hard with my guild mates and my wife for a year they decided to have a 1 year anniversary event dropped some random boxes that would give you the best armor and dragon orbs in the game then bam game over for me lol.

All the hard work was pretty much eliminated right there, was so mad. If it wasn't for that id probably still be playing it now tbh. Was a fun game

I definitely like the free-to-play concept.

The monthly fees are too expensive. And they are about the same for most games 13-15 euros. This sounds like an unspoken agreement amongst the publishers to keep a standard level of the fees . Noone comes up with a fee of 7 euros . Wondering why ...

It's nice to have a choice to play only the free parts of the game. And purchase only specific stuff if you really trully really want . This is good for the customers ....

I'd rather pay a sub than deal with Pay to win or pay for advantage.

Part of that is I expect my sub to finance new expansions and continued quality development of the game. If it doesn't/isn't then I'm not happy to pay $15 for just access.

I'd be happier to pay for just access to the game if the game had significant content/sandbox elements to warrant me playing for a long period of time while little was added for a smaller monthly sub.

Too many companies use $15 as the monthly charge and not all of them are worth that but virtually none will be honest and charge $5 or $10 a month, they all want $15.

I think it is too tempting for pay to win or pay for advantage companies to see nearly everything as an option to charge more money or make player's lives miserable if they don't pay for something. Which is another reason I'm less likely to bother with those types of games.

I absolutely love the idea of buying a game once and never having to pay again as in GW. I feel it is a 'deal' to only buy what I want, the game, then I can choose optional expansions or not and always be able to play(servers still running of course).

I feel too many game companies are trying to chase the MMO genre to print money through subscriptions or fees in pay to win/for advantage.

the fact that you can buy armor potions spells compainons hell you even have to buy dungeons in DDO i would say that is major P2W

Trust me, it's not.

Every F2P MMORPG has the "Wall". That's when F2P ends, and B2W begins. In the end, the B2W will cost you more than P2P by far.
