Do people prefer F2P MMOs?

Honest question here, are free to play MMOs actually what people want? For me the cost of a monthly subscription is so negligible it really doesn't affect my choice on a game. Nothing would keep me away from a game more than (Pay to win).

F2P encourage people who dont have a debit/credit card = eg young players.

Most 'adults' would prefer a pay monthly game rather than a supposedly free to play game as the f2p becomes pay to win and ends up being much more expensive.

However more casual players probably prefer the f2p games as it allows much more casual play, you dont feel obligated to play because you are paying for it.

No, I don't myself. F2P just equates to micro-transactions for items you need to win, imo.

For me I feel Free-to-Play MMOs have to have some way of getting money in and most of the time it seems by limiting non vital parts of the game, like they make you buy more character slots, or you can buy in game money from the company or sometimes gear can be bought with money.

So I am fine with then $15 dollar fee to make sure the company doesn't do crap like that.
Want to post feed back of why you're quitting? For the love of all that is good, post here http://www.swtor.com/community/forumdisplay.php?f=349

The catch is that payment models affect game design decisions. One only needs to look at STO for an example. That game had a specific direction pre-F2P that changed considerably post-F2P. It might as well be a different game and a completely different team behind it.

Whether that's good or bad is up to individual players to decide for themselves. I've enjoyed P2P games just as much as I've enjoyed F2P games.

Well, if the game doesn't gut too many features from the free version, it's not so bad. In some cases you end up spending more money per month depending on what they offer for money though...

So...hard to say really.
Passion, peace. Strength, knowledge. Power, serenity. Victory, harmony. Freedom, the Force.

Couldn't agree more.

$15 equates to $.50 a day. I could wander the streets collecting cans and make that.
If things get any worse, I'll have to ask you to stop helping me.

No because to remain competitive in a F2P you must throw in money and end up paying more then in a subscription.

There's a reason F2P games are known as Pay2Win.

I sometimes do play f2p but mainly when swtor is in maintenance.

No. I've really liked the maturity of the playerbase this far in SWTOR.

I support a full-bodied demo version though, like with a level cap. Though that opens up a whole other can of worms, such as gold spammers.

I also don't mind the GW/GW2 model of paying more up front, though to me that still incentivizes developers to make a good but short-lived experience because they don't have to hold onto subscribers.
