I approve of the upcoming change. Thank you, dev team.
TORtanic indeed. It's just like that movie that was hugely successful and made boatloads of money.
This is an MMO. Whether you play with or see the other players is irrelevant to that fact.

It's the nature of the genre. Enough people whine and cry and the devs give them what they want. That's how we went from hardcore MMO to care bear MMO.

Ig that's 'winning', you're welcome to it.
What is that baseball bat in your signature? Oh! It's a lightsaber! How cute is that !

Rolling on companion gear should be allowed, but only IF nobody else needs it.

All else, fair game.

A new and exciting thread! lol actually I think I have rage posts somewhere in the middle here. However, as I played the game more I've come to the realization that orange gear effectively nullifies this debate. Equip your companion in orange gear from planet vendors, keep those mods updated, and there's nothing you'll even want for them in an instance.

I like that they are planning on restricting the need roll but am confused as to why they want to add a button. As plausable justification can probably be found for just about everything else.

Seems like unneeded coding to me.
I am actually pretty ticked that they are planning on restricting the roll. Why give my characer companions only to ban me from obtaining the best gear possible for them when I no longer have to worry about gearing myself.

With that one move they will manage to kill a large portion of my reasons to continue participating in the endgame content.
Mal - Define interesting.
Wash - Oh God. Oh God. We're all gonna die?
Mal - This is the Captain. We have a little problem with our entry sequence. So we may experience some slight, turbulence...and then explode.

3 of the 5 companions a trooper get wear the same armor as troopers, of the other 2, one is a droid that has aim as a primary stat, the other wears medium armor.

The same goes for Bounty Hunters. Most of their companions use the same armor as them.

So a Trooper or Bounty Hunter can select need on an item they won't wear and give it to their companion because most of their companions wear the same stuff as them.

If you no longer need the stuff yourself then you've probably already seen everything at least once. My suggestion then would be to form "gear runs" with friends and go farm the stuff you want for that companion.
I plan on living forever ...so far so good!

I don't follow your logic.

You can still get the same gear for your companions that you do now, under the new system. In fact in a way you'll the same chance at it, because you can select companion rather then greed, because companion will have a higher priority then greed will.

That assumes that people won't click need, if they don't truly need the item.

You're not banned from rolling, you just can't roll "need."

Remember, this is only an issue because you needed other people to complete the task. If you could roll it solo with your companion, then it would be a non-issue.
