The other 3 are fine, Elara use Aim pistols, Aric uses AIM cannons and M1-4X uses an AIM Rifle (plus he comes with a moddable weapon default).

Also to be honest who cares about the other 2 anyway?
Aric is the best DPS.
M1-4X is the better Tank (and massively amusing).
Elara is the Healer.

So Troopers are fine companions wise.
I think you missed the point here... All your companions are aim/end based and most of them are ranged.

This is particular to people who's AIM based companions are both Melee, and their best option for a companion.

I use Skadge as a tank. I bought him some purple level 50 techblade off the GTN. I can't look it up now, he's off on a mission while I play an alt.

This.

Companions are (for lack of definitive statement otherwise and the presence of the options for them to date) supposed to have access to a moddable weapon.

Aim-based melee companions do not.

This needs to be fix.

Preferably now, hopefully soon.
Need a solid, casual guild? Consider Forceful on Mind Trick - fun, nice, and social, of course!

Too casual? Ok; find the right guild for you here: Guild Quiz!

Yeah, it's kind of funny, actually: the people who say that the lack of custom, Aim-based melee weapons isn't a big deal are right - but the reason they're right is that the lack doesn't exist anywhere else.

In other words, it's a small inconvenience to supply one companion with one item every few levels, but the fact that it's only one companion and one item only highlights the unnecessary imbalance; would forum-goers be so cavalier about this issue if it applied to all companions, in all slots?

Personally, the lack of non-class-specific orange heavy armor (on the GTN) for Qyzen is more annoying to me than the lack of orange Techblades, but at least the armor thing is (presumably) a common problem, and at least I can work around it with quest rewards and commendation purchases. To be brutally honest, lately I've wondered whether orange items for companions are worth my time at all; it may be more expensive to buy blues every so often, but it's faster and easier IME.

Regardless, there's no good reason not to have a couple of orange techblades (and other AIM-based melee weapons) in the game. On that, you'd think everyone could agree, but the internet strikes again.

As a Sage, initially, I thought it was "just Qyzen"... then I found that it applies to ALL the aim-based MELEE** companions:
  • Tanno Vik
  • Torian Cadara
  • Scorpio
  • Skadge (added 02-08-2012)
  • Qyzen Fess
  • Yuun

Even at level 50, poor Qyzen is stuck with a blue techblade while the rest of my companions luxuriate in the option of a level 50 moddable weapon for use.

In reading across the forums, I see a number of reasons and speculations on "why this is" and it seems the upshot is that no one really KNOWS why... but, to me, it seems a serious oversight and frankly, an unfair one.

If you agree and would like to see this fixed (and the sooner, the better), please join me in using the signature you see on this post. Maybe if BioWare starts seeing this show up everywhere, they'll give it some attention.

One can hope.

edit to add: In the interim, I've begun compiling a list of crafters for techblades by server here - http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=175852 - these are folk who have either (a) volunteered to make them for consulars or (b) have been recommended by consulars for their helpfulness. As ArmorTechs, I'm sure they would be equally happy to help out other folk with Aim-Based companions in need of upgrades.

** -- clarification
My memory might be slipping, but I recall a green (yes green) moddable techblade available for sale in Ilum (for credits I believe). The link below is one (not sure if it is THE one I'm thinking of). Granted, we are screwed by the lack of AIM hilt, but it is something at least.

There you go again, making assumptions.

You seriously have added absolutely NOTHING to this conversation. Your entire purpose in this thread seems to be to just cause an argument where none should exist.

YOU don't get to decide what people do with their companions. Just because YOU think people aren't doing anything with them that merits gearing them up doesn't make it so.

I have a companion in almost full Columi and one with three pieces of Rakata. Why? Because I WANTED it that way. I will continue to gear my companions as I see fit and as I see it that is none of your business at all.

Honestly I've been on these forums for years and you are the first person I ever considered using the ignore feature for. Your input in this thread has been nothing short of a bully standing on the playground causing trouble for absolutely NO reason.

This is a legitimate thread that was written by someone who has a legitimate request and those of us who have better things to do than take a crap in the punch bowl would like to have an adult conversation about this topic if that's ok with you.
Stop exploding you cowards!

All those green modables you are thinking of are VIBROSWORDS, trust me I've checked and doubled checked them all. The one you linked isn't "custom" btw

I got an orange tech staff while leveling. I don't remember where it dropped but it does exist.

I am also sure that I saw a orange tech lade on the dromund Kaas commendation vendor.

The hilts are an issue but as it has been mention the strength ones work, increased damage, endurance and the the strength increase will still help. The aim/strength difference would be very marginal.

Oh jeez your right about the link. I posted the wrong one. Regarding the Ilum weapons, I"ll have to log on tonight and check. I was actually excited to hear it existed from a friend who posted it in chat. I'll have to recheck. If you are right, it will indeed suck. I enjoy moddable gear even on comanions. Oh well.
