Is this game pvp or pve?

So check it, I was just thinking about what the devs are saying in the updates and comparing that to the ingame content.
Ok, I love pvp and am on a pvp server. The best gear in the game is the Battlemaster set, everyone is working toward it, that is the current grind. It's a pvp set so that is understandable.
On pve servers, the main focus is pvp also, they just don't get ganked in open world pvp. Pve servers have warzones, dueling, so do they have Ilum there on pve servers?
Is the best gear on pve servers the Battlemaster set as well?
In world of warcraft you knew up front it is pve game and pvpers were just the side subscriptions, toss em a bone with arenas and battlegrounds, but that game's main focus was pve. They have 40 man raids with large reputable guilds that would obsess of nothing more than grinding out those long *** 5 hr dungeons. ok, so that's cool, to each their own right. But atleast they had that.
In Star Wars, I don't understand the concept. If on pve and pvp servers the best gear set is Battlemaster, then that means this game really is a pvp game. If that is the case, then why wasn't the game set up more for pvp quests and rewards etc. The dev team's last update they stated like they were surprised at the pvp turn out for swtor and they are putting together a strike team to start implementing more pvp content. Thing I don't understand is the game mechanics are built all around pvp, why would this be a surprise?
There seems to me should have been more rewarding pvp system already in place. Like if your faction wins enough warzones per day then there is a valor, xp or luck for rare drops buff, or faction control of planets or systems, or closed planets that are only open to the winning factions of warzones or pvp quests. More warzones than just 3, ranking system would have already been in place to have equal teams in warzones.
Anyway, I'm just wondering how different the pve servers are from the pvp servers and it doesn't look like there is that much difference.

Nothing really to understand as it's extremely simple, devs just say "blah blah" like all the time. The Ops failed, Ilum failed, HM FP are pointless so its only Warzones left. Not that they and PVP are so great its just the only option that did not fail. What did you expected Devs to say - "Oh sorry we have only Warzones currently".

the best gear isn't battlemaster it is Rakata. Rakata gear gives you better stats it just doesn't come with Expertise. Your PVP stats will be much higher if you mix Battlemaster and Rakata gear pieces. This will make up for the lost of a bit of expertise. But Rakata is definitely much better gear for endgame PVE

This is a PvE game, with PvP because you need PvP to successed on the MMO world.

Any game with diverse classes and as much options as we have will allways be PvE with PvP onthe side.

This is because Real PvPrs want a truly balanced game. Wich you will only truly find in the online FPS games.

It is imposiable to balance this many classes and specs so that one will not be overpowered.

Look at WoW, how many years have they been trying to balance PvP, but still have FotM classes/specs? You just can't do it.

Impossible to balance 8 classes? I lol'd while it is hard to find a perfect balance, every mmo i have played has done a better job than bioware. They do not play their own game and it is obvious, every ranged class does just as much damage as melee while in melee range, getting beat on by melee. deadzones and interrupts that actually lock down casting for 4 seconds is a stupidly easy way to balance the classes, but bioware can't have this because then it would be to much like a wow clone and bioware wanted to be the special butterfly. Bad game is bad, but wow is no better and all other games are dead, so now we wait for gw2

Its a single player RPG to 50, then its a bad MMO after that. Single player parts ok if you dont mind a really long grind for that type of story content.
