I spend more time fighting the targeting UI than I do fighting opponents

It is insanely difficult to target people in this game. Since you can't click on nameplates (why?) and tab (or ctrl-tab for friendlies) is ridiculously unreliable and has the great habit of targeting people BEHIND YOU, it really seems like this game's PvP is as much about trying to target the right people as it is actually fighting. Even as a healer, it's quite difficult to target people in PvP (especially trying to actually target the guy with the Huttball), because there's no way to tell which person has the ball from the Operations frame.

And obviously, I would much prefer to actually play against opponents instead of fighting with the UI.

This game very, very badly needs an improved tab-target system (no, 'target nearest enemy' is not sufficient) and badly needs the ability to target people by health bars / nameplates.

Edit: "Nameplate" does not mean "operations unit frame". It means the little name and health bar floating above characters' heads. In every other MMO, you can click on nameplate//healthbars to target. In this game, you can either click on party/operations portraits, you have to click on the small-and-fast-moving characters themselves, or you have to gamble that tab-target will actually target who you want (it won't).

Agreed. Tab targeting and ctrl+tab targeting are beyond broken and unreliable in this game.
It's mostly annoying in PVP.

"Target nearest enemy"? ... Yeah, not so much -_-
"So I threw the Senate at him...The whole Senate! HAHAHA! True story!"
"What the hell is an Aluminum Falcon???"

I greatly dislike the targeting UI. It's one of the main things I gripe about on vent/skype when playing with people. The 'target closest enemy' often targets the wrong enemy. It also shouldn't tell me that I'm too far away when I attempt to attack the enemy that actually IS closest. It should just friggin' switch. Of course, that's a problem, too, which could cause the UI to randomly switch targets when you don't want it to.

Yea its probably the worst targeting ever, and clicking on the target doesn't always work either.

sign and agree. Targeting is the #1 thing on my list as healer. We need somekind of mouseover.

A bad tab target has put me in many interesting situations

Unless mouseover works with nameplates, it wouldn't even help.

I, and many others, posted about these issues throughout testing. I even worded it similarly: fighting the UI more than the mobs. The UI is the reason I am not playing a healer. I, and many others made it clear that we would not be playing healers until the UI was brought up to current standards.

They are aware and don't care. They released with this UI after all of these years of development even though they have an actual UI team. Apparently, redesigning the map to have fog-of-war and a hex grid was more pressing than usability.
I'm not a hater, I'm a disillusioned and disappointed fan.
"I spent a good 5 or 10 minutes searching around the preferences because I was sure a feature like this would not have been omitted."- A simple quote that I have seen countless times; This is what is wrong with TOR in my book.

As a healer, you can target your party members by clicking their portrait in the party frame or their name on the raid frame. Problem I have with it is that there is no indication of who you have targeted on the party frames. That's an issue, but otherwise I haven't had a problem. People used to Healbot mods from WoW are a bit spoiled IMO.

Effective targeting for healers is 'spoiled'? I thought a game was supposed to be enjoyable, not just tolerable.
