Valor 70+ gear

Gearing up is NOT the number one staple of an RPG and the fact that anyone thinks that clearly shows how the carrot on a stick design becoming the status quo has twisted peoples ideas of expectation.

The number one staple of an RPG is Personal Character Development in the form of Levels Gained. Most Single Player RPG's don't require you to Gear anywhere near to the extent that MMO's do. Typically you just need to be of a high enough level and even if you're not, there's usually tactics you can use to overcome the adversity. This is the exact reason why MMO's are the ONLY RPG's that use Enrage Timers on fights.

Grinding to the bright new shiny gear is always going to be in MMO's simply because it's the most effective way of keeping the populace playing over long periods of time. However when it comes to PvP, the most fair way to gate progression via gear is to have it be Skill Based. Rankings, Ratings, etc.. need to be the way to gain the best gear because otherwise the gear and advantage goes to those who either spend the most time doing arbitrary tasks and/or those who take advantage of every glitch, exploit, and loophole they can find.

This is why people are so angry about this entire system. Valor doesn't reward skill. It rewards grind, rolling with the dominant faction (ie zerging), and the early exploiting of valor gains.

Why it isnt like that right now confuses me tbh. The current gear should require those valour ranks and then they should add crafted PvP sets and a set you can buy with normal warzone commendations at 50.

PvP gear progression would essentially be fixed.

(They could also then improve the waste of space that is Cent gear and make BM gear better in comparison to Champ)

Lol dude, no offense but thats a crock of #$%^. Lol people, im sorry these whiners on these forums are going to need to get a clue real quick. You take things WAYYYYYY out of proportion. Dont get me wrong, pvp needs to be fun, FUN is the main factor, but basing the longevity of an aspect of an mmoRPG on fun factor alone is a HUGE flaw. This is an RPG, and gearing up is the NUMBER ONE ASPECT of a RPG. Look at games today, be it MW3, battlefield, skyrim.
[/QUOTE]

This paragraph made me giggle. Other than "for fun", why the hell else would I play? No one is paying me, I'm paying *them*.

The gap between BM and Champ is small, agreed, but the gap between BM and Cent is huge. If you introduce a new tier then Cent gets dropped even lower and thenn the gap between the new tier and Champ becomes an issue. Each new tier drops the others lower. While the difference between 1 & 2 is minimal, the difference between 3 & 1 is huge and the difference between 4 & 1 becomes insurmountable.

Make the curve to enter into PvP too steep and fewer people will bother and the PvP community stagnates. A lower barrier results in more people being able to compete and keeps the community fresh.

WoW isn't the monster that it is because of its PvP. I hate to ruin everyone's sense of self importance, but the PvP community is but a fraction of the whole. WoW is a great game and made some great additions to the genre but let's not pretend that they didn't do anything wrong.

If you want to maintain a healthy, competitive, and vibrant PvP community, the barrier to entry needs to be lower. Competition is more fun for everyone except for those who get off on bullying people. I want good fights that can happen at any time. I want a new 50 to have a chance at beating me because he is better at his class. I get zero enjoyment out of three shotting a new 50. I'd rather have a good fight that ends with one of us respawning and the other at 5%.

We all promote class balance because we want fairness. Why are class imbalances such a big turn off while gear imbalances are ok? Because you farmed more Warzones than I?

It's just silly. I want competition, not a shooting gallery of easy prey so that I can feel better about myself.

Not everyone is a hardcore gamer. Give the devs some time. Game has only been out for less than 2 months.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO O!!!!!!!!!!!!!

RPG'S ARE NOT ABOUT GEARING UP!!

Have you ever played a P&P RPG? You know the first types of RPG in extistence, the source of the word Role Play Game. Ever Heard of Gary Gygax(RIP)? You probably just made him try and sit up in his grave the poor soul.

Below is a short History lesson from a slightly older gamer that has seen RPG's evolve and become MMORPG's and slowly drop the RPG tag in favour of simply giving you gear.

Once upon a time, me my brothers and my sisters didn't have computers, there were only 4 channels on the television and if you could get a good signal on all 4 of them you were lucky. We played sports together during the summer for fun but during the winter it was not always fun being outside so we looked for other things to do.

My eldest brother was Dungeons & Dragons GM. Dungeons and Dragons was a game where you took on a roll, you became someone else sometimes the type of person you wanted to be, or the type of person you were least like in day to day life. You then went on an adventure, sometimes you would make good decisions sometimes bad ones, and dice existed to decide chance. Now the art to being a good GM - which my brother was - was in story telling. I could have any weapon I wanted that fitted my class (I'm not sure that was official but I was the young kid that got spoiled) and it never changed a roll. The difference it made was in the description of the fight, whether I split an enemy half with my mighty axe or parried and slashed like a cornered wolverine with my dual blades. Gear was almost entirely flavour. Occasionally an epic would turn up but it wasn't so your character could instantly "Roflstomp" his way through the game, it would be a part of the story to deliver that weapon to someone or it would be needed to kill a certain enemy(Epics had specific purposes always). Your character would develop but the main point was escapism, using your imagination and roleplaying.

Gear didn't mean anything in RPG's for many many years. When new gear was added it was often to compliment new content. (We want the new enemies to be harder and more dangerous than the original nemesis, but the players will need tools to match their new enemies)

Then there were single player RPG's and MUD's.
Single Player RPG's put a lot of emphasis on gear progression, it was an easy way to add 'progress' to your character in nothing is overpowered in a single player game.

Anyway the idea of the early online RPG's was not to progress/grind. It was to recreate the original RPG over great distances. I can for example still play GW with my sister in Australia and my brother in the UK.

Slowly people started to define RPG's based on things like Final Fantasy which had a lot of levelling up to attain new skills, and lots of new gear and weapons (I remember when I first got Atma in FF3 it was a freakin' lightsaber!).

Anyway many good games were born some still exist, others don't.

Then WoW was born.... This is were everything changed, they took the single player progression system and put it in a multiplayer game. And lots of what WoW did became "Industry Standard" which is painful to a lot of RPG fans.

What is the logic behind 3(4 until they removed 1) level 50 tiers of PvP/PvE gear at launch?

Answer: This is how WoW would do it if they re-released today.

You can add incentive to grind pvp without giving people better gear.

Do they need more grind?

I think not.

Below I am suggesting additions, not removals of anything.
We need more dynamic interesting PvP. And you're gonna hate this but they could mix it with PvE(Make a race through a dungeon/Flashpoint a race against another team)
Make it have a tourney style of play with a Scenario, put the players about to fight face to face and let them mouth off at each other for 30 seconds before a fight.

Let players place wagers. How about this! I put 1,000,000 Credits on the fact no other commando can beat me! or no one can beat me (I'd lose money on the latter). If someone has the cred's let them challenge me and have us ported into a hut arena.

When someone get's defeated or win'z the highest ranking on server, tell the server in huge letters, make lighting brighten on the repub fleet if they are doing well!

Make the act of fighting feel relevant.

Add weekly mass pvp events. Give someone something to hold and something to take but rather than the Illum, "This snow and these armaments are ours until we get bored or more efficiently start kill trading" Make it something to wind up to and something to talk about afterwards.

Give guilds scores and perks for being amazing, give the people that want to feel elite anything to make them feel elite apart from another gap opener which they will have consumed(grinded/achieved) in a month or less.

No thanks. Some of us want to play a second (or third or eighth) character, so if we have to only play one character every day repeating grindtastic content then there will be a max exodus.

It's already a case of 'those who played the same character longest' wins in most PvP situations. That only gets worse as time goes on and some people are happy to do a daily grind on one character while others would rather quit the game.

You don't make content that kills off players if you want to make money. It's why we have a 1-49 PvP group for those who PvP for the fun of it. That's the players that Bioware wants to keep subing.

THATS ONLY 2 PIECES OUT OF 11-12

THEY HAVE ACTUALLY STUNTED INCENTIVE TO REROLL TO REPUBLIC DUE TO THE GEAR HEADACHE.

MEANING.....IMP 3-4 TO 1 RATIO UNBALANCED POPULATION ALREADY GEARED WILL NEVER BALANCE OUT.

SO............AT LEAST YOU HAVE CHAMP GEAR !!!!!!!!!

i WILL BE VALOR 60 BEFORE I HAVE 1/2 MY GEAR WORST CASE, BEST CASE I WILL GET 2/3 WHEN IM A BATTLEMASTER.....GREAT FIX HUH??

WAY WAY better. I had a vault full of duplicate pieces before I finally got my full Champ gear...in fact I was battlemaster before I got my full champ gear and I had 15 or so duplicates just rotting in my vault at the time.

This way NO duplicates. You are better off.
