Combat effects move around, and usually they happen right there, in the center of where you're looking.
That's all well and good but why hasn't it affected the players until now? Bright flashing lights everywhere have been here since this game launched in the form of blaster fire and lightsabers. Isn't there a psychological condition where one person claims they are sick from something and the crowd joins in, mimicking the symptoms, but they are perfectly well?

So very shortsighted... just because you don't have a problem doesn't mean one doesn't exist for others.

Because they added flashing effects on the UI in the last patch.

I highlighted the important parts. They got skimmed over.

You ditched the fun-o-meter?

Was it fanboys getting you down, or BW asking politely/maybe not so politely?

Usually the combat's in the center of your screen, not neatly distributed around the peripheral like the UI is.

It's a terrible UI; I don't see how anyone even bothers to defend it, unless they're diehard fanboy or flat out paid employee.

Since late Tuesday the development team has worked on some new code to allow you to select from a variety of new options for the global cooldown. I saw a preview of the changes today and while I know everyone's UI choices are individual, I think most people will like the options presented to them. They're very flexible, and the 'flashing' most have described is now able to be turned off, along with many other optional choices. The team has spent today cleaning up and finalizing the code, and after that it'll go into our QA process.

As this code change has come in 'hot' it was unfortunately too late for us to add it to the build being readied for next week's planned patch (1.1.3, which is now available on the Public Test Server - here are the notes). We also want to ensure it's got some solid QA testing on it, as it's a change that will be seen by everyone playing the game. With all that in mind, we're currently expecting the changes to be rolled out with patch 1.1.4, which is tentatively scheduled for deployment in the week beginning Monday 20th. As always, the patch should be on the Public Test Server before that, and when it's available, we encourage everyone to try it out and see the changes made.

Before all that, as we know many of you are interested to see the changes, we're going to give you a sneak preview of those options when the code is finalized and ready to show off. We're working on that now
and, fingers crossed, we'll be able to show you something tomorrow.
So happy!! After seeing all the posts from several threads, seeing Stephen's twitter page, and now seeing this really makes me happy.

I don't have a light sensitivity or migraines (I don't even wear sunglasses!), but the 'gcd dark then flash' does cause me to get a headache/nausea after a little bit of combat.

So until then, I'll patiently wait and play something else... a break might be good anyway

Should also note: I am a severe migraine sufferer and hasn't set off a migraine for me. Heck, an MMO has never set off a migraine for me.
Same for my wife. Highly prone to migraines. She isn't having any issues with migraines.

I actually have liked the change. I barely pay attention directly to the bar and the flash is a nice thing that is easily caught in the peripheral to know I can do something else...

Now, if BW would only put in some other kind of flashy thing so let me know when procs happen...

you dont get a refund for something like this. lets put it this way if your on a rollercoaster and it makes you sick do you ask for your ticket or money back afterwords? there is a warning in every game for these types of problems flashing lights can cause if you dont heed it its not biowares fault. They ARE fixing it so again how does this justify a refund? he never said the issue didnt exist he merely stated the obvious. the game is absolutely playable bioware cant be held accountable for peoples medical issues. that would be absurd
