But when your game is 14 years old - your game engine, your graphics, are far far behind. I know they have updated it once, but it is just far behind new games technology wise - hard to get new players into a game that doesn't have all the sparkling graphics and animations of today's releases.

WoW can olny dream of still having an active player base 14 years after launch.
I have tried to play all the sparkly games but for some reason none of them last as long as EQ did for me.

I guess once the sparkle fades there just isn't anything else.

Yeah, that would suck for someone who's sole enjoyment is derived from loot.

I'm guessing most of the 177 people still felt more accomplishment from that than any of us will ever feel in SWTOR.

Sounds like these people need to go play Everquest if this is what they're lusting after. There are still servers available from what I hear.

This game has four party slots and three roles. That is not going to change, and reminiscing in General about a game that has no business being discussed in said General forums wont do anybody any good.

Go post in the EQ forums about how hardcore things used to be, and leave us plebeians alone to enjoy our crapfest of a game.
Quit being so rude and putting you paradigm on a pedestal

On top of the fact you have no understanding of what is even being discussed since you only play D1 D2 and went to WoW .... Lol

You just wouldn't get it

They didn't have fun playing it. That's what nostalgia does to you. It makes you remember stuff as more fun and far more socially connected than it really was. It's the brain's coping mechanism for crippling loneliness in the present.

Most fun ever in Everquest:

4-5 rogues, 1 shaman (linkdead after 5 minutes, but he had enough time to buff us a bit) - Crypt of Dalnir (At least I think it was that dungeon)
I have never cleared any dungeon as fast as in that run.
No healing, no tanking, no cc - just 100% pure close combat fighting with permanent pulling and steadily moving through the area.
Q: So, is there anything at all in the game that mitigates falling damage?
A: elevators

Well actually yes I remember

Because the Holy Trinity was warrior, cleric, enchanter, which then morphed into tank, healer, cc

Why people today call the holy trinity tank dps healer is so lol

Dps never goes into a holy trinity because the great majority of the people that play games today are dps. You could/can always get dps

But then again I remember the proper definition of Endgame and grind too which most people nowadays have no clue what they are either lol

Typical MMO-Nazi response. Tying to make me feel bad for games I did and did not play.
I wasn't there to play Everquest so I cannot POSSIBLY imagine how much fun you and your Internet friends had together taking five hours to kill one dragon!

My point remains valid. If that is what you want, then go play Everquest. This game is not, and never will be, Everquest or any incarnation of it.

This is correct

The loot was rolled on ... That was a myth

Also the loot didn't matter it was being there and doing the almost impossible

I was there. Everquest was a crap game where you sat around in Lower Guk for hours in a single room taking turns camping one spawn and then sitting for 12 minutes doing nothing inbetween because instancing hadn't been invented yet.

It was a total crap game. We played it because we didn't know any better. Almost everyone jumped ship when something better came along, and there's a reason for that.

You know what makes you feel accomplished? Running a mile in record time, scoring the highest on a challenging exam, watching your child learn to walk, etc etc.

Getting 180 randoms you found on an online game together to slay a pre-programmed dragon should never be on that list.

Personal opinion.
