Lord of the Rings PvP was ****. LOL. As broken as SWTOR PvP is, at least it has some sort of balance system with mirrors classes. LOTRO PvP was just ridiculously imbalanced.

Can't really speak for the LOTRO comparison, but god Ilum is brutal.

I've done my daily for the last 7 days on Ilum on Daragon Trail. 2 of those day my kills were actually financed with PvP.

Today was probably my best day on Ilum, because there was decently even numbers of Sith to Pubs - 20 Sith and 15 Pubs. They made it even by base camping and grabbing the turret. Although, lovely design by the game designers which causes my client to lock for a full 1.5 secs when someone gets on the turret and experience 1-4 FPS during the worst times. And that is only with 35 people.

Just brutal.

I have never been to Ilum, and all the sass about it makes me never want to set foot there. And when people start waxing nostalgic for LotRO PvP I get pretty weirded out (really that bad?).

But I did have plenty of laughs there, playing evil-side.

You know ill be honest recently ive been kind of fearing gaining 50 and stepping foot in illum, after all the stuff I have heard about it in the forums .

I had a blast in the moors on the firefoot server(a server with a medium-low pop). Like the OP said it was fun, even if the other side had a giant raid a few people could band to together and stop them from taking the keeps. If what yall say about this game is true and the control points are barely defendable then it really seems that the faction that can rally the most people can roll the place and camp the spawns till boredom strikes. I do have high hopes for this game and im sure bioware is working its hardest on fixes, theyve never let me down before hopefully they dont start now Just throwing my 2cents in there (again never been to illum just read about it a lot)*

*I bolded the parts that show that i have no idea what im talking about just analyzing the data I have read. (I feel like extreme clarification is needed, these forums are full of the Im the UBERiZT PVPER alivez everyone else SUCKS I played _____ for ____ years and I OWNED!! types)

I have a rank twelve war leader and while I think Ilum is horrible, so was the Ettenmoors, though for different reasons. Four years on the same map with fights always being pushed towards the middle of the map made for stagnant and boring fights. While there were fun times, I'd hate to see something similar occur with Ilum (which it is -> boxes -> middle map -> *sigh*).

That is entirely irrelevant to the points discussed in this topic, except to say that Ettenmoors style PVP in TOR would be 1000x better as class-imbalance would be a non-issue. Nobody here is suggesting changes to classes to be more like LOTRO Player vs. Monster Players.

Rinse and repeat 150 times until the weekly is done. There needs to be incentive to go out and fight over bases, instead of people just saying "nah, too much trouble".
The Ettenmoors shares it's basic concept with Illum, but... gives more incentive for map control as you can only turn in quests from specific control points, if you still control them. It also gives a huge reward for flipping bases. Something you couldn't do here because....

It is true. One time I popped out of a warzone, took the center map in around a minute BY MYSELF, and as the imps showed up the next warzone let me in. It was hilarious, but entirely broken.

ITT: OP makes a constructive post on how he thinks Ilum can be improved. Many people agree with him that Ilum needs improved and some like his ideas. One, and only one person says Ilum is perfect the way it is, and has about 40x more posts than anyone in the thread.

I wonder who is correct.........?

Agree. I have a Rank 12 Minstrel and think Ilum is the worst PvP I have ever seen in a game to be honest. The objectives aren't objectives that take any thought beyond clicking, lol.

That said, Lotro PvP is pathetic for a host of different reasons. They are both really bad - but Ilum's design is ... not even a design. It's a joke.

I prefer Lotro PvP conceptually to SWTOR, however Lotro PvP balance is currently nonexistent while SWTOR doesn't actually have open PvP at all.
