A. They do not see the effects of not doing so (grouping up automatically is more convenient, they don't see the cause/effect linkage between the desirable means and undesirable end, and therefore they do it).
B. They're "crowded out" by people using the tool, to the point where the base of people to manually group up with is too small to effectively group in this manner.
if people do NOT enjoy auto-grouping, they are going to group up manually.

Period.

if people enjoy grouping up manually, they are NOT going to auto-group unless they enjoy it as well.

Period.

people do NOT pay money for entertainment they DO NOT ENJOY.

Period.

You already have no community if you require an LFG tool in the first place.

Funny how TOR took a step back from what Rift did with class design. Sigh...
The HK droid that absolutely no one likes.

People do not enjoy low quality health care but they still agitate for socialized medicine.

People do not enjoy high taxes and a bankrupt country, but they still agitate for "social" programs and ever-growing defense budgets.

People do not enjoy joblessness and poverty, but they still drop out of high school.

Do I need to go on?

Do argue for your position.

entertainment has nothing to do with real life issues.

everything I just said in the post you quoted is true, whether you like it or not.

no one has a choice in what options they have to pay for in real life, but they DO have a choice in what entertainment they pay for.

no one is going to pay for entertainment they do not enjoy.

Do YOU pay for entertainment you do NOT enjoy?

Yes or no?

I'm offended. Do I really seem retarded enough to support a cross-server implementation, or are you just trying to fish out a red herring?

As far as I can tell, an ignore function would work reasonably well if the game kept a reputation system of sorts for players; the more you were ignored/avoided the lower your priority would be when the game is filling group slots. Thus you'd have an incentive to make a positive contribution. The weighting of negative rep handed out would need to be correlated with your own positive rep, which would help prevent players from simply trolling by avoiding everyone in every group they enter. Obviously this still has the potential for abuse, but nothing's perfect.

If I don't want to spend hours spamming general chat for a group, then I'm not likely to be the sort of person that cares because someone just got called out in general chat, am I? Not all of us want to be involved with the community at that level, and just because it's an MMO doesn't mean we should be forced to. Why can't we have a tool that lets us find people to enjoy content with without having to subject ourselves to considerable inconvenience or excessive obligations? If you want to be more involved with the community side of the game, wouldn't you join a guild (making the presence of an LFG tool irrelevant anyway)?

The only group an LFG tool would really seem to hurt is a group of players who don't want to join a guild but also believe that forcing people to spam general chat and become frustrated improves the community ambience.
