is this the worst pvp in MMO history?

Right now i have a very good time in warzones, so i don`t think that SWTOR has a bad PVP system.

I moved from WoW (as many of you guys) to SWTOR and i was playing a lot battleground and arena in it. i didn`t think you are serious about "WoW made a standard of PvP" ? WoW has a pretty bad PVP system where players from a good PVE guilds have a way big advantage over anyone else... every arena season WoW have 1-2 OP classes. every arena season we have PVE weapons and trinkets for nonbrainer 2400+ rating..

Warzones are fun on my server. But Ilum and world PvP is the worst I have seen. Sadly some real lack of planning and foresight at design stage. Despite having so much data on hand like the pre guild thing Bioware could not anticipate this would happen while many players saw this coming from a mile away ...

Ilum complete disaster now and keeps getting compounded ( more imperials getting geared ) because no sense of urgency or maybe just apathy ?

Most fun I've had in PvP, epicness wise it really was the forte of EvE online. & wormhole PvP brought a whole new twist to it. Accesibility to PvP and consistent fun across tiers would have to be WAR OrVr and scenarios on the flagship NA server Dark Crag. I never got to play DaOC though.

TOR's PvP isn't the worst. It's the same as WoW's so people saying WoW's PvP is better seem to be barking about a non-issue. There are other games with far worse PvP systems. I just put SWTOR's middle of the road.

In terms of class balance, its one of the best I've played, every single class has access to multiple specs that make them good in pvp. All three archetypes are worth while in pvp

In terms of availability of pvp, its great for instanced pvp (quick queues) but pretty rubbish for world pvp. Still, during peak hours you can pvp quickly.

In terms of combat itself, it is fairly fluid but ability delays / bugs make melee harder than it should be. The combat is still flashy and fun and quite tactical, every class has CC to make things interesting!

In terms of overall design philosophy, its pretty poor. They stated during the hype that time to kill would be high but it really isn't, you die very quickly! Open world pvp sucks in terms of design, objectives and incentives. RNG bags suck

So, to sum up the important parts based on my experience of PvP in TOR, LOTRO, WAR and SWG (pre-cu), going best to worst:

Class Balance:

TOR
WAR
LOTRO
SWG

Availability of PvP:

WAR
TOR
LOTRO
SWG

Combat Flow:

SWG
LOTRO
TOR
WAR

Open World Design Philosophy:

SWG
WAR
LOTRO
TOR

So, based on this ranking, I am generally pleased with TOR pvp but due to poor combat flow (ttk too short) and lack of open world objectives, TOR pvp at the moment is looking like a short term activity rather than long term fun. There is no reason to fight on Ilum or any other open world pvp zone beyond farming valor or completing dailies. SWG's class balance may have sucked and the pvp may not have been wide spread, but when you got in to it on a decent template it was damn fun, it took ages to die and being able to build and defend your own base gave you such pride!
Having played these same games as well I concur. The only thing I would add is that LotRO is a PvE game by design with no intent of PvP outside Moors.

Also what people seem to be missing here is that TOR is ABOUT the story and if you are only leveling in WZ then you are ignoring the lion's share of what this game is about. Now there's nothing wrong with only doing WZ but make sure you understand the game's main focus, the story.

And most importantly: TOR has only been out a month! These thing take a while to work out.
I follow my own path. If our paths converge you are welcome. When our paths diverge you must choose. I follow my own path.

God, they just ****ed up the GCD and PvP even more.
I don't judge a game by how old or new it is, I judge it by what it is when it is presented to me.

Just a couple, out of the ones ive played anyway. AoC was better, DAoC is best but old.
WAR PvP mechanics at launch and after were awesome. To include it in any worst list shows an extreme lack of knowledge and judgement. The problems with WAR were most certainly not its PvP mechanics.

WoW has one of the most responsive and lag free PvP environments. The game is extremely stable and seem to run with no problem on machines that are barely above an etch-a-sketch in power.

I stopped playing WAR because it felt like a job. It was too much stress being an order player (let alone your sides war leader, guild main tank and main tank for PvP), every time I logged on you spent 8-12 hours pushing destro back to the middle knowing that it'd be back the same when you logged on again. I'm not saying I was responsible for the pushing back... it took all of orders best players to do it and we had nothing left at the end of the day and destro had plenty more fresh bodies logging in.

WoW is like McDonalds. You can't really criticize it as a product because it achieves what it sets out to do very efficiently. It's a lot less effort to get a McDonalds burger than an exquisitely cooked 4 course meal, that does not make it better but it doesn't make it bad either. It is certainly more popular.

Anyway... I've rambled off...the modern player doesn't want an actual mmoRPG, they want a game. They'd be better off with angry birds...

"wahhhhh I had to wait actual time for a shuttle/boat!"

"waahhhh I have to seek out PvP in the game and not press a button"

"wahhhhh people who put more effort in get more out of the game than me"

When I started playinh MMORPG's they tried to "simulate" a fantasy world.

Now they are just games... and that's what the public asked for.

EQ is the real forerunner to modern MMO's... you cannot compare a game with a first person 3d environment to an isometric topdown.

Sad but true!

I was on 2500+ rating in every season and I consider it the second best PVP in MMO history! The first is won by Guild Wars!
I achieved much more than that in WoW S1-S4... and i tell you this: Everything after S4 in WoW Arena was totally ******** and not even close to any sort of balance or fun. And ofc no "skill" at all involved.

S1-S3 was fun, sure. Because it was new etc. but at S4 you already saw it coming, that Arena will fail in terms of balance. And whats the end of the story? Just watch S5-S10... a complete disaster, nothing more or less.

And all those wotlk cry babys don't even know what arena was in BC, and thinking that wotlk/cataclysm is top notch PvP.... no its not, by far not.

Ratings are also a bit meh, my first glad was on bg9, and the drastic step down in quality when i tried 7 was awe inspiring, it went from dozens of quality players, to a place where you could count the non mouth breathers on one hand, that being said wotlk never even got a subscription from me.
This... WoW was never a PvP game at beginning... hell it didnt even had BGs or Honor system at beginning, it had nothing pvp related. then an stupid honor system was introduced which was really dumb how much you had to play. yeah and then, arena. thats it. thats wow.

and thats why this game will NEVER be balanced whatsoever, because it is a *********** PvE game, just like swtor is.
