Why go Republic? Something MUST be done

actually, it's about fantasization. It's the same reason why we watch action heroes, root for freddie krueger, and even care about movies starring Jason Statham.

a good bad guy is always appealing. It has nothing to do with wanting to BE evil, it has to do with wanting to 'see what will happen'. assuming that peopkle that play evil characters ARE evil is like assuming that everyone that slows down to rubberneck at a traffivc accident wants to be one of the bodies lying around.

The problem with the jedi storylines, and the way the game is set up in general, is the same one that bioware has suffered from for YEARS. There is no 'appeal' to being a good guy. There is no pain from making evil moral choices, or reward for good ones, or even vice versa.

The moral trouble with being a Jedi should have been developed right from the start... dark options should be more appealing, but the moral consequences of those actions should have been more appalling. Just like with the sith, there should have been more punishments and rewards for choosing light or dark options.

The problem is that there are no real 'branches' to the various ethical choices. no consequences to evil OR good actions. This means that, basically, selfish actions appear to have zero consequences, and good actions appear to have zero benefits. Thus, evil, selfish, and self-centered actions are clearly more appealing.

Believe me, if Bioware set up a series of rewards, truly unique rewards, for certain ethical decision making, and advantages for that, all of a sudden republic would be the go-to choice for people wanting to be the good guys. while PVP balance is a priority, that is not going to happen.

In otherwords, progress only occurs in an unbalanced system...to improve the appeal of the good guys, you have to upset the balance apple cart.

number one reason for me to play republic these days

(on a more serious note I do enjoy huttball. but 8 games out of 10? no thank you. and I'm having immense fun on my smuggler.. the story-line from the jedi consular takes up after coruscant but I really liked it from the get-go anyway. you get a 'behind the scenes' look and I really enjoy that)

I rolled EMP to begin with inspite of most of my mates rolling REP.. took them 2 weeks to roll EMP..
Last week I rolled a REP sage...
Got to say the average age of the REP players seems alot higher than that of the EMP players
Ended up with a new to mmo player as tank last night in a random 4man .... the other 2 guys in the group and I both have tank alts, took us about 10min to run him through the basics, within 20 he was tanking like a champ.
Had a new to tanking (not new to mmo) guy about 3wks ago on EMP, 1 guy qq'd and dropped, leader started abusing the crap outta the poor tank...

Thats why Im playing my rep toon more than my emp toon atm...

I honestly wanted to like the Republic more... But...

I kinda fell in love with my female IA... Jo Wyatt's voice on a Chiss Amazon with the best storyline and ship in the game? *melts*

(Yes, I'm sorry to admit it, but... Jennifer Hale, there's a voice I like better than yours! )
Zandilar, an Australian, IN SPAAAAAAAACCCCEEEEE!!
Too many characters, most of them Chiss.

I find the republic side simply much more enjoyable. Being evil all the time is just boring as hell while leveling and as soon as youre maxed it doesnt matter any more.

I wonder about sith being played that much more often tbh, since in WoW Alliance was played much more often in the beginning than Horde.

But in the end its all just a matter of style, so theres nothing to be "done" about it, i guess.

Heres some reasons;

Being the underdog in PvP (Ilum) thus getting to choose your fights, instead of like on my server (Ahto City) the Empire runs around in packs of 60's chasing down solo groups of Pubbies.

Being able to throw rocks at people! (wat!)
Having (imo) tons better looking PvP gear.
The people who stay Republic will generally be more dedicated (as they havent jumped ship) and thus better with their class, from having played the character longer/having higher gear/higher rank.
Wearing a bad-*** Indiana Jones style hat and shotgunning people as a Smuggler
Big-*** commando/vg guns!
Getting to do quests without the overpopulated zone being runned down by people ninja'ing your objective object or frantically tagging the same mobs as you try to kill.

Did i mention throwing rocks!?

The light side is not attracting players.

on naddis rebel. youd think their would be alot of rebels. but there are not. I can get in a pvp match in 20 seconds. most of the time the game rushes me in because somebody quit. its rare to win a match this way.
