The problem with that analysis is that its almost certainly not the game that casuals are looking for either. The guy you quoted is right in that the lack of features associated with modern MMO's is pretty crippling. I have no doubt they'll add some (most) of them with time, but asking for patience from the playerbase when there are so many alternatives available isn't gonna fly forever.

I am actually going to go with an unpopular view

Alot of people tend to think that sub games or the MMO genre is failing, and to a point the latter is true

I personally look at it from the level of difficulty in a game

All of these game in the last 7 years or so have basically been cakewalks

Levelling is way to fast. People get to cap too fast. And the game have nothing to do after you reach level cap

That is a common thread

The game that comes out where you spend more time on your character and learn how to play your archtype will be the game that stays strong

These days everyone rushes to 50 and then complains. If games took you 3 months or more to level through the world and content came out every 6 months. That is what the genre needs
I am pretty certain grinding is a thing of the past and I get that but I honestly think you make a modern game with 2 games in mind EQ for pve and daoc for pvp (rvr) and you will have a great game that will have longitivity

Even take a game like wow their first major thing was like 2 years after release

SWTOR fate is in their own hands. They know the levelling is too fast. Now they are forced to released content. And now they have to do it and keep doing it
I think they have some stuff they already had in store for the first year but they need to start really cranking it up at the 5 month mark and beyond

The big failure has been game balance and itemization. Not surprising though as singleplayer games (BWs stronghold) rarely care about these areas, but for MMORPGs those are the most important areas normally.

I am hoping the genre will become more niched (is that a word even ?) again in the future, as the attempt at satisfying everyone generally leaves the product subpar in most areas.
The problem are the bugs. Things like WZ wins not counting are very very frustrating to the consumer. In fact any bugs which basically waste your time are incredibly frustrating. Why do you think a /stuck is standard in every mmo. Other bugs like going to character screen when joining a warfront and the unresponsiveness of the UI will kill more subscribers then either class balance or itemization. Even the undocumented raid bug fixes which has already killed this game for many raiders are too little too late.

Even basic problems like the game not being optimized for lower machines can be placed in the 'bug' category. When there are still people that can't pvp because they get 6 fps on a gtx560ti, then you know there is a problem.

Personally I think class balance and itemization are pretty good, especially with upcoming bag changes. I've seen all classes perform very well and the game is pretty nicely balanced once people are geared. The gear disparity is people's main problem with balance and not the actual class.

I dont no, Star Trek Online is the way its going.

I stayed around for months hoping just like this in that, and i can see this will be the same.

Hyped up promises of some mega game, which will probably come together after a year.

Will be too late in the main by then , first 4 or 5 months for an MMO to get its heel in the door after that , it starts toward f2p.
Well done Patch 1.2, lots of additions that i was looking for.

Not sure if everyone became an MMO expert analyst or just impersonating one...

Over time the Bioware/Star Wars die hards will continue to play and make this a nice little niche game. The rest of us will migrate elsewhere once the boredom sets in. Frankly I think MMOs are a dying breed.. given how many have been released with minimal/no growth now, and even WoW isn't growing anymore. Oh well.

For me, TOR won't last until April (or whenever GW2 comes out)!

As you can see from my join date (day 1) I have been following this game for a long time, but it literally took me 3 minutes of watching a GW2 video of level 1 questing to know that game will be a hit for me.

So I don't think TOR will have 10 Years Domination.

I do have to say the concept of WoW has lasted a long while and is copied in many a MMO game. I don't dislike SWTOR so don't get me wrong or get offended if you read this. But it does bore out quite fast as it is highly repetitive and not much up for any difference.

I for one seriously miss the diversity they had in Star Wars Galaxies. Again this could be because SWTOR is new and no expansions are up yet.

SWG gave freedom in non-combat, non-story or non-PvP stuff too. Pretty much everything in the game was up for alteration. People could create like own houses to "live in", that you could decorate in your own taste. You could pretty much customize, colorize, or personalize anything to your own taste or liking, into far more detail. For example there was way more possibility for armor. Neck, body (as in WoW and SWTOR), but also separate the upper arm, lower arm, even difference between right arm and left arm pieces. So you could really customize yourself. Like be a pink storm trooper for all I care .

Again you were able to alter and even color most of the things you did in the game. It gave for so much more artistic creativity. I simply miss the fact that in this game you cannot interact with anything other than other players. You can't for example simply take a seat and sit around in a space port or cantina or something, you know.

Right now everything is bound to the player and color, shape or size comes the way it comes. And there is not much variety on that yet as it is.
Your ship is class bound. There are maybe 6 speeders to choose from. And it's all YOURS, not able to be used by others or even have guests riding along with you (on both spaceship or speeder).
There is not really much option for personalizing things, or tweaking things your way at all. Or interact with your surroundings (enhancing Roleplay a whole lot more if you can technically play with your environment).

I miss that. Don't get me wrong it might eventually come. But I just miss that.

If i dont see major changes in 2 months ill give GW2 a go.

I really dont like saying that, as i wanted this to be the game id stay with at least as long as i did with WoW, i sadly cant see that at present.
