He was not trying to persuade Miss Shan that Revan was her great-grand-pappy, he was referring to that fact - which she already knew - as a persuasive argument that she should, like Revan (and Bastila) before her, dip a toe into the pool of the dark side, try it out, see if she might not like it.
This is an example of the reader being made aware of something that all of the characters already know, so even though the Sith are inveterate liars, there is no reason to doubt the veracity of this assertion of the Shan lineage.
