I know there is no addon that displays everyones information on my UI. But surely there is a combat log of my characters actions.
It was removed cause they felt it didnt work well... but are redoing it.

If they have to completely rebalance the game to the point that they assume you're using mods to beat it then its no less selfish that you expect that people should be able to use them.

This whole argument people use of 'don't kill my choice' is so lacking in insight. Developers make choices about how the game is meant to be played and its within that framework that we the player exist. If they choose to allow mods that allow clinical precision in class utilization then it will make them change how they design the game and eventually it'll be just too hard to play with a mediocre playstyle at end game or it'll be impossible to play in any guild without someone analysing your lacking play at which point the choice to not use mods becomes one of being inferior or marginalized.

I believe its one or the other because eventually the mob mentality will lead the unimaginative players to do what everyone else does.

What they said. If you want to theory craft and dittle **** around go play your cartoon game with pandas some of us play for this thing called "fun" and a challenge. Wheres the team work and difficulty if your "damage gauge" does it for you. Why even play an MMO? For that matter get rid of Mandatory ABS and Air Bags maybe people will drive better AND game better if someone makes them do this new thing called THINKING. Critical thinking people it works. You really don't need a program to tell you what to do. Talk to your friends discuss your difficulty's and successes with friends.... Is that not the point of an MMO?
Me was going to invite you to snow monster ball, but now forget it!

Oh god I love this.
People who dont see the benifits of a dmg-meter or the perfect post in this thread something about if you like dmg-meter play wow.
hahaha its just sad to see.
why cant ppl see that when you get to lvl 50 some ppl like to raid and in a raid its important to see if the dps is slacking, ofc you can see that if the boss dont get down in time but witch dps to blame? who doesent like a (for some examples only) a sub rouge or a holy priest dps in a raid? "but I got the hit cap with smite just with an glyph" and thats what we will see if we cant se what ppl preforme.
for all you haters out there if you cant handle to suck hard in a raid, dont raid I dont like to sit and wipe a hole night just becuze som ppl think it takes all the "fun" out in a game if you see how much dmg you do (or probably not do).
I really hope that there will be some kind of way to see all this when I start to raid.
But what do I know I never raided without a dmg meter (and I dont like to niether). The big problem I think we will see is that it will be either to hard or to easy to raid if we cant determined what ppl really are doing in a raid.
Just my thouts about this and im so sorry for my bad spelling and bad grammar.

Best regards Bobby

Once it's in there will be a parser and that's all I really want. I enjoy testing different things to try to max my own character out. I really don't care about in game threat meters, dps meters, mostly more ui customization but bioware can do that on their own w/o addons.

Honestly if you want to know you gota get fraps lol and then run it for an hour and do the required math, 10 min wont be accurate at all going by eye. Sadly im sure someone will try this for a rough idea.

A damage meter will happen some how, if the devs want it or not, im sure something will be done. programs can be written to read numbers on screen, and if you can change your combat colors that would make it easier.

If we cant get DPS meters it would be cool for the devs to parse for us and post.

edit. cant all the numbers with the proper math be punched into a calc and give the max theroy DPS based off a static mob with selectable variables? sure its not real world DPS with human error and movement, but it would at the very least keep the devs honest about that 5% thing.

What im seeing here is a bunch of pathetic complaints and answers from those complainers to the situation.

One of you claimed looking at recount was too much like work? and then they say record for 60 seconds and add up all the numbers?.

Which sounds like more work having a tool do the work for you, or having to do all the work yourself, taking time out of your game, stopping you play, just so you can figure out why you and your group cannot get past a simple boss fight?

If your against damage meters then you are more of a tool than the tool itself.

Sure, I can drive my car with my feet.

But it's not fun, and if I can drive with my hands I can focus more on the fun while driving rather than trying to consecrate on coordinating my limbs.

With DPS meters, sure I can browse the forums, do my own testing, see how much damage my abilities do based on my stats, calculate their cooldowns and see how I can best coordinate them so I do good damage.

But is that fun? Hell no, unless you love Mathematics (and sure some people do).

I haven't experienced end-game raiding in Beta or in this game yet (too early obviously) but if it is anything like WoW or Rift, meters will be required to help you figure out who is slacking, how they can improve, and what the best rotation is.

And yes there is ALWAYS a best rotation, this is a role-playing game, there are stats, and numbers are numbers.

I levelled through Rift with mediocre groups that were able to do dungeons fairly ok, but nothing amazing.

3 months later I levelled a second toon, DPS rotations were much more widespread, as were the best damage specs, and I joined up with a group of players who had mastered these, and we tore through dungeons in 15-20 minutes instead of the usual 40-60.

And this is just dungeons, which are easy, especially since you can outlevel and outgear them.

End-game raiding is not going to be outlevelled, so you will need to perform well to be able to defeat it.

To the people claiming that in Vanilla WoW you had 15 people carry the other 25 and no DPS meters were needed, sure, but those were HUGE raids and Blizzard were able to scale them adequately.

With only 8 or 16 man raids available in SWTOR, 1 or 2 people slacking is going to make a much bigger difference.

Sorry for the wall of text, I'm not an 'elitist' player, I never got end-game content down before the nerf or next patch in WoW, but I did do my damnest to try, and without meters to show which of our DPS was slacking, which of our healers was slacking, and to help them improve, I would have given up a long time ago.
You Have The Post Of the night and i totally agree with you. I don't think it has anything to do with the actual meters. I just think that people get upset when someone tells them to step it up U SUCK. ITS A GAME HAVE FUN DO WHAT U WANT.
