Questions On Gear Progression (Crafting/FP/Operations)

Ok so without an in depth guide I have been a bit confused on a few of the inner workings of certain aspects of SWTOR. First off I am normally very interested in raiding in all the games I played. With the new remodeled equipment customization I am wondering a couple things about gear progression. At first I thought FPs and Operations would be dropping mods mostly but in the updated gear post by the Devs it seems the first bosses will drop boots/hands and the last bosses will drop Chestpieces/Helms.

Since we can customize the bronze/orange gear how will the progression for gear be in relation of optimal stats between heroic Flashpoint gear, Operation Gear and Orange customizable gear? I'm very interested in Orange gear since you can customize and keep the gear with the aesthetics that you like. Also are you able to customize with mods/enhancements your purple gear from FP and Operations?

Right now I believe Green then Blue < Level 50 Flashpoint Purple < Orange Customizable Gear(with the right mods) < Purple Crafting Gear < Purple Operation Gear. Is this correct?

If it is then the orange gear and crafting gear will eventually be replaced with Operation gear for those of us that min/max for optimal gear. I've heard mixed things about this so I'm a bit confused.

Or is it Green then Blue < Level 50 Flashpoint Purple = Orange Customizable Gear(modded) = Purple Crafting Gear < Purple Operation Gear.

Is Crafting gear worth getting at all if you have the counterpart of it in Orange gear? If so what would be the point for min/maxers in going Synthweaving or Armortech?

Any insight is very much appreciated. Thanks!

nobody knows! orange gear is kind of mysterious at this point. item level and armor (not rating) kind of throw a wrench in the idea behind orange gear. there have been other posts about this. i think what we need is some yellow

Orange gear is equivalent to the quality of the mods in it. If you put epic mods in it, you get an epic item. Blue mods, blue item. All of the (normal) flashpoint oranges come with blue mods, so they are equivalent to blue items.

Thanks, I know this is how it works I was just wondering if you were able to essentially be able to get heroic flashpoint OR operation level mods from crafting to put into orange craftable gear and weapons. I've heard that you would be able to basically get a piece of orange gear that you like the look of and mod it out with commendations or craftable gear. Therefor not having to grind flashpoints or operations except for the non-orange gear that you need.

With crafting yeilding cybertech(armoring/mods), Artificing(hilt/enhancments), Armstech(barrels), slicing(augments). If it doesn't have equivalent end game level equipment then making a choice between main and alt crew skills would be easier to choose for myself in the min/maxing sense.

Orange gear threw a wrench in my line of thinking you would be able to have the gear with the aesthetics you wanted without replacing it with operation gear later on.

To to test this, someone will need to drop the best known mod, an Advanced Hilt/Barrel/Armoring 25 into a custom gear piece and see if it's assigned gear rating becomes 140, the current max gear rating. If not maybe there are higher level mods that we haven't seen yet, or they intend for us not to go beyond a certain gear rating with mods. I've only gotten up to an advanced 22 mod so far (what you can reverse engineer from vendor mods). I can't recall the rating it made.

That's some thread necro you've got going here.
