Yea orbital stations suck. And a lot of planets have hangers.. ontop of that.. tatooine/corruscant to name two.
I could deal with it a lot easier if i could just mount in them. I can sort of understand the idea of orbital stations as like "meeting points" or whatever.. but why cant you mount in them. its sooo much gosh darn running.

The biggest problem that orbital stations and all the extra running brings to this game is that it makes people less likely to help out other players unless they are already close to them.

Helping a lowbie with something they are struggling with is about 15 minutes of travel getting there, and 5 seconds to kill the mob. good news is that since it took you so damn long to get out there, your quick travel should be off cooldown, so you dont have to run back.

Yeah...this is a problem...I understand that a certain amount of travelling around keeps people from leveling to 50 in one day and that's a good part of game design. The problem is...quicktravel doesn't let you skip this part no matter what, which doesn't make sense actually.

Quicktravel can get you out of the depths of an ancient Sith cave inhabited with all sorts of monsters and insane Sith warriors...but quicktravel can't get you from a safe Republic base on one planet directly back to the fleet or even your ship?

The same reason quicktravel exists is the same reason that we should have the option to quicktravel through the starport, orbital station, shuttle, fleet, ship hanger, ship bay, ship, orbital station, shuttle, starport situation..just keep it on the cooldown with the rugular quicktravel and I will be happy...sometimes you run it...sometimes you can quicktravel it. If I'm somewhere and my quicktravel isn't up yet...I just run a warzone until quicktravel is ready and I can save some repetitious content...everyone is happy...but yeah...

you could improve this a little bit also...like in Mass Effect there were news updates in elevators and little side conversations with companions...give us something to look forward to running back into our ship...like tie an Ilum battle reports and world pvp reports in...Keep me up to date on the galactic world pvp situation during my trips to my ship and I will be jumping at the chance to run to my ship and through the hangar so it gives me an idea which planet is the hotspot right now...

"10 Imperial Special Forces landed on Tatooine for an unknown diabolical purpose, so far they have dispatched over 75 republic troops, will anyone come to the rescue of these poor colonists?"

A good way to do this would be to actually HIRE a real Role-Playing Game Master for each Server who monitors what's happening, which guilds are doing which Ops...and they could type in text that could be read by a protocol droid or flash across a news screen...this may be more complicated than I'm making it out to be but holy **** it would be sweet...galactic broadcast system would make the whole galaxy feel more real...

"Galactic Runners just killed a Titanic Ice Beast on Hoth, many lives were lost in the fray, but that cold inhospitable planet feels a little warmer now that the Behemoth no longer walks its frozen icy surface."

...sorry got off topic...rambling because servers are down...waiting...waiting...trolling...trolling...p lease god finish the maintainance...but yeah...please implement all that stuff I want ASAP...

...and for the love of Slicing get the sliced but unlooted slice-safes off my mini-map if I can't slice or loot them!!! I have no need to see them on my mini-map!!!

Oh...also...the starport, orbital station shuttle visual content is...just okay when compared to the planet visual content...you want players to be more immersed in your really good content rather than this...sub-heroic, compulsory elevatoresque content...or redesign the run so that you are going up a winding cliff face with a killer view of Tatooine...or a bustling commerse with tons of people and droids scurrying about madly and loading cranes and maintainance on other ships happening...or just let us skip it and get to the good stuff until it is ultra-*****en

Orbital stations are used a cheap fix so they don't have to do another ship leaving from/to planet surface animation.
Actually, the orbital stations are there because the starting planets don't have class hangers. Otherwise you would have to go through the fleet to get to and from those planets.

a sci-fi mmo with spaceships, hangers, airlocks, wth were they thinking, give me a ship but dont make me fly it, god forbid that i have to click more than once on anything so i can rush to 50 and make a forum post about how bored i am and that there is nothing to do in the game...

slow down enjoy the game and the whole world and everything that goes with it, personally i love the travel system, i treat it like my own personal cantina, send your comps out and do crew skill leveling without the constant low fps in main populated areas, listen to some music while you craft things, just slow down and enjoy the damn game, after all its a game, not a point and click lame *** rush through everything coz i have no patience lame *** kiddies game.

bioware made it it's fine.

immersion is great as long as it encumbers others.

even if they were only adding an option to skip the same 3 pointless screens I would still complain. Even if that option involved an automated time waster as opposed to forcing you to play through the bland identical areas.

Just thought I'd summarize the counter-arguments i've gathered from three 10+ page threads on the subject.
