So Why is Threat Invisible?

I am a tank, and I am good at it. The numbers are pointless. If you see something attacking your sniper, well drop a taunt and keep on tanking. Seriously, it is all about paying attention, not watching a stupid little numerical representation.
Hey pal, I do all those things. I AoE tank, I loose and re-taunt targets. I'm fine, really. I'm a good tank.

This is not the topic.

The question is why it's invisible, not if you like that or not. I'm not the least bit interested in the latter.

It's not that intense, no, but there are definitely times where you get a close scare.

However, speaking strictly from a Powertech Tank standpoint, whose tanked both operations and hard modes, agro is really a guessing game. All I can say is that when I'm actively tanking a mob, i don't have to worry about the mob / boss bolting and going to **** someone's face, unless it's in Kaon Under Siege.. Those infernal Infected Hunter's jump agro so much I want to scream sometimes...

That being said, I don't worry about it. I've never once lost threat on a boss, or on adds that actually count, so I don't really look for change.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it, right?

It also doesn't answer the question as to why it's invisible to begin with. Based on your reasoning, we should just remove health bars. Hey, I'm either alive or I'm dead, right? What do I need all these numbers for?
Numbers? Eh, the amount the bar is filled is good enough. And by keeping an eye on how fast it goes down and/or gets replenished, I can know whether a person can survive or not. If it's one minor trash mob on a guy, I try to take it down, but I don't feel the need to pull him on me with the other three or four guys attacking me because, well, the guy he's attacking (likely the DPS) is SURVIVING and not likely to die.

Being a tank isn't JUST about getting everyone on you, yanno.

Look guys, no one's worried, okay? Can you all stop waving your tanking e-peens around?

The question is "What reason is there to have it invisible?"

The question is not "Who can boast the most about not needing it?"

Obvious troll is obvious. Thanks for the bump, though.

Actually, I think the question is, "Why do we need it?"

In almost every MMO I've seen, without mods, there hasn't been a threat meter that I could see. Not in CoH, or CO, or DCUO, or LOTRO, or STO, or even WoW. Nor any of the other FTP games out there that I've played.

Well ok, maybe ONE had it, but I can't even remember if it did. If it did, I barely noticed it.

That's not my question. Get your own thread.

You can't answer my question. You just want to thump your chest. I get it.

Whether all the uber-leet-tanks-who-are-awesomer-than-the-OP need threat meters or not, I wouldn't mind having one to look at if I wanted to.

But I guess if using AoEs and constantly swapping targets doesn't work, a threat meter isn't gonna help either huh. I won't worry about it unless it becomes an issue, I suppose.

And on the "if we don't need threat meters, why even use health bars?" thing; not having a threat meter =/= not knowing when you're about to die and need to use a medpack. If you do lose threat every now and then due to no meter, you can probably fix that before someone drops.
