$450.00 roundtrip airfare
+
$150.00 hotel
+
$60.00 - $100.00 food cost
====

The only people that will be able to attend this are the rich kids who will most certainly misrepresent the majority of the player base. Is this a joke?

You would think that something like this, which has been complained about since release 6 weeks ago or so, would have been addressed at least once on these boards, right?

At least some explanation as to WHY they think it's a good idea.

This is a 'promising' idea on Bioware's part ( I say 'promising' because as it stands right now, it feels as though the Guild feature was added as a last minute chat convenience).

Guilds SHOULD be the cornerstone of any MMO. A good guild keeps it's members engaged and active in the game like no other feature can. Guilds and the personal relationships developed therein keep people subscribed in between content and major raid patches. The current state of guilds in SWTOR isn't good IMO and many of the features that are 'upcoming' should have been implemented BEFORE launch.

Things that need to change NOW:

-Give us back the Guild Hall for discussion of guild and op leadership issues.
-Give us an ENGAGED and KNOWLEDGEABLE contact on (or near) the dev team that will advocate on our behalf in regards to guild features. Stephen Reid is in an excellent position to do this and the community trusts him but we'll happily accept anyone who shows an honest interest in helping us help our members.
-Give us the bare minimum of guild features NOW. The guild UI is terrible and SERIOUSLY?? No Invite button? I use the /ginvite command but many guild leaders are unfamiliar with the 'typical' guild commands.
-Also, at the very least, we need an easy way to see when people last logged in. I (and many other guild leaders) don't keep people who are inactive for more than a certain number of days.

Most of us will happily wait for things like guild ships and in-game recruiting features, but guild banks should be implemented sooner rather than later. There are 'quality of life' features that are standard in almost all MMOs and storage is one of those things that should have been in place at launch.

The summit is a good step in the right direction. I sincerely hope that many good things come from this. Bioware, like any MMO developer, needs to see that the social connections made within the game are as equally important as new content in keeping people subscribed over the long term.

I just want to chime in and say that my guild, The Corellian League, which is arguably the largest RP guild in TOR right now was not pre-invited to this event. I am sure the selection took several factors into consideration but for the most part was random in order to avoid accusations of cherry picking only certain guilds. Either that or BioWare just doesn't like us Corellians (they did make us give our planet to the Sith after all... ). Regardless, I have applied to attend this event and there is still no guarantee that we will even be chosen. If we are selected, will I go at my own expense? Absolutely!

This is a golden opportunity to sit down with the devs in person and provide, meaningful, constructive feedback. It will also be a chance for the community to get to know each other and build new connections. As we all know, an MMO ultimately lives and dies by its community. This is a prime example of how a developer understands this and is trying to find additional ways to connect with their game's community. As we build the community, the game itself will get better.

As guild leaders, we have our own min-communities to take care of and are in a prime position to collect and disseminate feedback that would be very useful for BioWare to hear.

Here's hoping I make it to Austin in March!

If I may:
You are doing it wrong

At this point without having an established player base you'd better ask players why they left.
So invite player who stopped subscribing instead.

Now for getting feedback from active subscribers that don't go to the forums, start doing in game optional surveys after the login screen. Then once you start having some real data, work on building focus groups questions and double check the most sensitive trends with 2-3 choices only in game polls. Finally, then and only then send the invites.

And the carrot on the stick would be to give a virtual reward like a title or a fluffy item to people who answered the poll/survey.
