What does the 1-49 bracket teach us about PVP gear?

Valor rank is capped at character level. If you level up a character through warzones, you will eventually hit that cap in your twenties. It happens later if you start later, but it always happens, and it never changes because you need more and more warzones to level up. When you hit 50, you will hit valor rank 50 at the same time because the bar was full at the cap, and the last warzone you need to level up will grant valor again.

Even my level 46 shadow that I actually leveled up mostly through solo questing, just with a fair deal of warzones on the side, is a Centurion. My level 37 would be one if it weren't for the cap...

Come on, if you are a PVPer you don't need the crutch. Don't hide behind your gear.
Then... reroll if you can't hack it at 50. I don't see the problem- some people like gear progression, they have level 50. Some people don't, they have 10-49 and 50 once you get your Champ set after a few weeks.

If that 2-5 week gear hump really has you so bad... play the 10-49 that you like, I don't see the issue at all.

Because you can't turn off experience?

Sorry if this has been said, i only read the first page but.... Didnt most of you ASK for brackets?
If your soldiers fear you, they'll fight for you. If they love you, they'll die for you.

This post is hilarious.

It's actually the FPS players that mock the MMO players for relying on a gear crutch. Why do you think WoW was removed from MLG tournaments? The perception that "skill" in WoW PVP is based solely on team comp, class imbalance and gear.

Whether or not this perception is true is irrelevant. Perception is reality, and MMO PVP will never EVER be taken seriously by anyone truly competitive unless gear is made baseline. In tournaments this is done, because people want to see matches based on skill not gear, on live servers it is not.

Lets really think about what that means.

It means that people would rather do the PVE grind AGAIN then put up with being the equivalent of being grey mobs in WZs who's purpose seems to be to entertain no one but the people who are lucky enough to have more free time or unlucky enough to simply have no life who get to kill you over and over again.

It means that PVP is MORE exciting when your adrenaline is pumping because you are in a pitched battle with someone who does the same damage and takes the same damage you do and it really comes down to quick thinking, reflexes and strategy that you EARNED through practice rather then because you have a statistical advantage over your opponent. Where the timing of every shot counts. And obviously that is going to be more exciting then losing simply because your opponent hits far harder and takes far less damage.

Gear based "PVP" is not a test of a player vs a player unless people really think that because someone was able to do more repetitive tasks over and over again because they don't have kids, or a job or a life (Or simply are willing to sacrifice those things they should be spending more time on) is somehow something that people can be tested for and be lauded as if they "accomplished" something.

The grind olympics? Is that something you want to be remembered for? You were better at wasting more time in your life then someone else so you "win"?

If we are going to have brackets, I think we should have a bracket where Expertise is shut off. ESPECIALLY if you are thinking E-sport. And ESPECIALLY if you are going to have a PVP rating system.

I have a feeling that bracket would be far more populated.

Hmm.. actually you are wrong and i will tell you why people are doing that. Here it goes.. a little avoided secret. You can actually get a bit of expertise pre 50 by stripping the pvp weapons that have it. Max of 25 per weapon so if you put it on orange gear.. you run around in the pre 50 brackets with a good chunk of expertise.

Oh as an fyi the mod is level 45 and this is why some people will quit zones so they dont hit 50

Either is fine - as long as they address it. But then again I'd be happer if they just tweaked the game a bit to include:

1. Diminishing returns on valor for a kill (help out tons in Ilum / win / kill traders)
2. Weekly stats per class, guild, alliance, etc
3. Assign valor to level (50 - 1000, 49 - 900, 48 - 800, etc) each person in ops, group, gets piece of pie (again, helps in Ilum AND melee vs. healers)
4. Add guild alliance with common channel
5. Grant valor tied to above per kill regardless of location in the game (again - helps Ilum)

This way you can group or solo pvp and obtain the same percentage. There is a reason to play. It stops the win or player kill trading in Ilum. If you don't like a zone then you can move to another planet and still reach some of your weekly caps. You would still need to partake in Warzones (as you should) but this would provide other means.

Also - ganking would allow points but obviously slim to none. Meaning it is still there but you wouldn't gain as much (if any) as if you killed someone your level. In fact make the degree of separation higher if that is a concern between 50 and the rest.

The point of the thread seems to be that the 10-49 bracket did improve things for everybody who isn't 50 yet. That's a good thing but there's still some room for improvements on the level 50 side.

I came up with some ideas on how to reward players in this thread.

Sadly either my ideas sucked or it got pushed back to page 10 before people got the chance to see it.
