MMO's are about gear progression, FPS shooters and co-op rpg's are baseline with perks......you want another genre of game, not MMO
Like I said my friend. The carebears will always beg to differ.

Bad pvpers have been grinding gear for years to get an advantage over other players because they fear even ground.

PvP'ers (unless you live with Mom) have been looking for this for years. SWTOR is not it.
fyi, you describe perfectly an FPS game
Remember this: Noobs have the most fun, they gain joy from things you disdain. They find value in that you find worthless. At the end of the day they have more fun per hour than any elitist I have ever known.

actually...

you do have to have XBL in the case of Xbox...

and if you pay for all of the DLC.. it costs about as much as paying 15 a month for an MMO (its within 12 bucks)

and on top of that...

there are levels, unlockable gear (better weapons), unlockable perks that change gameplay...

yeah.

CoD.. has all the gear options that any MMO does. They just call them something else and cleverly disguise them so all the thumbstick jocks dont feel like nerds.

There seem to be a lot of people who don't like the gameplay and reward system in this game. They like some other game's system better. I don't see why you would want this game to turn into or be a clone of some other game that you DO like. Playing that game instead of this one seems to me to be an easy choice.

Most companies want more than 10k subs.

Look at the threads- it's always about the gear- gear this, gear that- and for those that have their gear, what are they posting? That's right "I have my gear, there's no point to this game now".

Most people don't pvp because they like it- they pvp for gear, pure and simple. Most people are awful at pvp- gear can make them good, so, they go for it.

Do you think people would really play if it was all skill based? Hardly.

I'd bet you my entire bank that if they added an operation to Ilum control- suddenly, Republic would be playing it. Why? Not because they like pvp, but because it'd mean gear.

If you are looking for a PVP game that is not based on equipment, then any RPG is not going to be it. By their very definition, RPG games are about being able to gather equipment for your character and hence improving them, granting you advantages.

Maybe a FPS is more your type of game.

Short of creating a special mode where everyone gets to choose a pre made and pre equipped avatar, MMORPGs are not going to be free of gear influence, nor should they be.

I don't find the gear advantages to be that great. Individual skill to some degree but teamwork to a GREAT degree can overcome gear disparities.

Bad PvP'ers will always need a gear crutch.

A sad but true fact...

Sorry a game is the only sense of accomplishment and identity some of you have.

I could have told you it was a bad idea. WoW said the exact same thing about resilience. Rather than make an OP stat, they should have just made pvp gear have more stamina and each class use defense. Meaning you trade damage for survivability, not gain more of both.

Tell that to the millions of SC and LoL players, both of which are pvp games based on skill not getting the advantage of gear.

Your arguement for that may be:
But one is a RTS and the other a MOBA, they are not MMORPGs.

My response:
GW2 approach is very similar in skill over gear in pvp, which is a MMORPG.
