Really?
You assume there is no ulterior motive to this?
Why must the numbers be posted here?

To...enlighten us?
To..educate us?

Or to show "what an epic fail SW:TOR" is?

I am confused what this information is providing for us here?

Better game play? Better queue times? What does this information provide in a general forum for betterment of those who subscribed to the game?
Fix the FPS issues in SWTOR!!!! SWTOR Tech Thread

I'll look you up.
You are right that my student status has no bearing on the conversation. Again, I am sorry if you think that I have a chip on my shoulder in posting this thread. I am an avid SWTOR fan who has logged a silly amount of hours on characters. As I said above, I am definitely in this game for the long haul. These numbers are just to inform people on the forums and give a little bit more concreteness to numbers-based arguments.

I do have a secondary motive: To make the arguments about sales grounded in some better evidence. People love to estimate wildly about SWTOR, and VGChartz has done a better estimate than a lot of people. It is moderately alarming that people immediately assume my bad intentions, because that is definitely not my goal. The way in which people are bettered is that they are just a little bit more informed. If forced to analyze these numbers, I would say SWTOR is doing great! I would also say that these numbers do not impact my enjoyment of the game at all.

However you can see trends, and the trend is the total number of purchasers is down from launch, but I don't think I needed this data to figure that out :P
Of course you didn't. Most games don't double their sells in the first week.. A majority of the people who're going to play it, pre-order, the rest are a slow climb up.

I can't believe there are the equivalents of whole countries playing a game together. It's just madness I'm glad I lived in this time! BW must be up to their eyes in sh*t working their butts off.

Hopefully when I'm on the verge of retirement there are holodecks to visit and the new MMOs are just total win.

Well then, since you have submitted your undying love and passion for the game we can be friends. You can understand if I seemed to come across a bit rude without intention. I read so many story's on this broad about people disliking the game and trying to find sales figures to back up their claims. It is discouraging at times.

Looking at it from my point of view. I would say they gained more in digital sales then any others. Alot of people didn't want to have to wait to put in their code or they would be cut off from the game and it offered alot of them chances to "upgrade" if they bought the stand red. In any case I hope you enjoy the game.

Sales are typically large for an MMO coming out that people are interested in. The bigger question now is Subscriptions still active. While I believe the sales were big, including the numbers posted here and the pre-orders, it doesn't say much for those who are unsubscribing.

Mind you I'm not one of those people who are unsubscribing, but judging from the 10 people that constantly post about how this game sucks, I'm curious to see the numbers of those still subscribed.

So despite the cries of doom and fail the game is still selling like hotcakes...and that isn't even the digital sales....Now when/if EA announces their numbers tomorrow watch the compensated hate machine start screaming that they are lying if the number is over two mil.

It absolutely has to include digital sales. The NPD report shows that they sold 600,000 physical copies as of 12/31. In order to get to the VG estimate you would have to include digital.

There is no way ....no way in hell that these charts could estimate digital sales even in the ballpark....either they are not including them or the entire thing is worthless.

I think 2 million total sales is pretty darn good. There is no way they have reached that number if digital is not included.
