To be perfectly honest, the only system that would remove all the loot drama entirely and be the easiest to implement is a simple Roll/Pass system. Another source of this ongoing argument is priorities of loot rolling, and some choosing a priority others think they shouldn't choose.

If it's Roll/Pass, it's very simple: if you want it you roll for it, if you don't want it you pass on it. What you do with it is your business (as it is now), and no one can complain: if they didn't want you to have it, they could have rolled against you (which they can now, but choose not to for a variety of reasons, or choose a lower priority roll, which they think you should have as well).

What is unfair about both people rolling need and the mods go to the person who rolls highest?

They both will use the item in exactly the same way. They will strip out the mods and use them, and sell the orange armor.

fixed

As long as there's loot there will be loot drama. I'm sure even if each player got his own loot bag, there'd be drama, somehow.

but the best we can hope for is to make the system fair and impartial.

Because three choices are aparently too many. Roll or Pass removes the grey area.

This is correct.

The current system could be made the epitome of 'fair' if everyone always rolls Need, regardless of circumstances. That is the only fully fair implementation and were I to enter into a PUG that didn't establish other concepts at the beginning it is the only way that I could reasonably be expected to roll to keep the playing field solid.

That is the MMO landscape being advocated here in the interest of fair trumping all.

I don't think this will actually change anything, Eldren.

I think most people right now look at Need/Greed as "Roll/Pass". I know I stick to the old school definition of "greed" which is "I'm going to sell it for credits." And who doesn't always need more credits?

If it went to a roll/pass system, the same people would be saying the same things, they'd just replace "need" with "roll" and "greed" with "pass", and we'd have a whole second layer of loot distribution behind everyone passing because they didn't need it, so now who gets it?

Damn you, jawa! Where's my friggin' lightsabers...

Seriously, there's always going to be loot drama, I agree. At this point I'm most interested in minimizing it. I'm sure that someone would be upset in a Roll/Pass system that someone rolled on something that person thinks they should have passed on, but it's a lot easier to refute at that point too: "Wait, you want me to entirely pass up on something I have a right to roll on?" "Yeah, 'cause it's for my class, so you shouldn't have it at all." But at least with Roll/Pass, people stop complaining that someone rolled Need when they "should have" rolled Greed.

This is kinda out of left field. Has anyone really expressed a concern here over people rolling greed instead of passing?

The issue has, in my mind, always been what you're "allowed" to need.

yes ..both would have need and an uncontested right to roll that way. Others would be showing thier colors.

Why not?

Dont people realize yet that 100% of the Flashpoint loot is 100% useless and you get access to better by simply running your solo quests.

If my compaion can use im rolling, because it is a bigger upgrade for them than you who can just buy mods from comm vendor for yourself)
