Edit: Hell, its not even just meleee, I would even do it as a caster versus other casters.

Uh, no. Like I said, I play a Mercenary. And like I said before, while it's funny to be able to just sit there eating a sandwich and pressing keys because I don't even have to pay attention to where I'm facing half the time, it's not a good system overall.
But if a melee is sitting there hitting a ranged caster and the caster isn't kiting then the melee should be able to kill it easily... I don't get this argument, melee characters should be happy when it comes to stupid ranged classes trying to face tank you. Easy win is easy bro bros. All the auto face mechanics in the world won't help a caster beat a melee if he's just standing there, however, if the guy has skill, then you're not going to get very many chances to catch him Up close while he's trying to hard cast a spell and when he's kiting you he'll most likely be using instant casts anyways.

gunslinger would be 100% unplayable with out autoface. you cant kite and you cant damage on the move - it's how the class is designed. you really want to get rid of autoface? fine, get rid of the cover system and make aimed shot and charged burst instant cast, and make charged burst put a snare on someone that cant be dispelled.

That's why it was removed, because it was intended? Or was it removed because it was an unintended exploit? The reason it was implemented was not because of PVP, but because of PVE and wanting that class to be range, rather than stacking on melee and simplifying encounters, but then it was exploited during PVP, mostly by melee, but in the end by pretty much everyone, and further fixes had to be applied.

Back to the subject though, this thread is nothing more than a sophomoric cry that it's too hard, and it's really not. Melee have their strengths and weakness, as do range, and if you were to remove autoface in it's current design then you would have to redesign cover and many of the advance range mechanics. What is the problem with the way it currently stands? That range are picking off melee from afar? There's always a box or a stair way or a 100 other obstructions in every play area to use to line of sight said range, but to make our very backs blind to range is...ludicrous. Really, it is. If a range is locked on then if you run side to side, front to back, you are in his or her target zone, unless you use an environmental object to negate the effect. The back is NOT an environmental object. It's the way this game was designed, deal with it.

It was finally removed because no one really liked how it worked. I'm not sure how you come to the conclusion that just because it was removed years later, it was never intended to be there to begin with. Again, you might not be aware of what that word means.

Gotta do this to remove autoface AND add collision other wise this turns into a bunch of bunny hoppin jousting tards, like an FPS.

Being on the forefront of having it removed, and petitioning the developers to change it gave me an understanding of not only why it was implemented, see the previous post, but why it was unintended as a PVP mechanic, and why, through numerous hot-fixes and patches, it had to be finally scrapped. UNINTENDED game mechanic for PVP, Unintended is unintended.

Back to the issue at hand:

Autoface has been standard on channeled spells since as long as I remember (7 years or so), but autoface on casted spells/abilities I have never even seen before. Having autoface for casted spells (plus the fact that you cannot lock out spell trees, just individual spells) is a very bad combination. This takes away one of namesakes of a mele class in an mmo: you don't want to engage them in mele range as a caster, kiting and opening distance is what skill as a caster is all about. My favorite example is if you white-bar my gunslinger: GG bro I'll shoot you even if your in my hitbox and I have higher dps, more defense as I spin rapidly firing off casted nukes.

This will increase the game's skillcap with minimal repercussions (people will adapt) and give mele less excuse to QQ.

(I play: Sage, Scoundrel, Gunslinger)

/translation I want to see a lot of melee running around in circles and jumping around to avoid LoS.

No wonder there are so many angry replies in this thread - almost all of people who dont want autoface to be removed are the ones who play ranged classes which dont move much in melee - merc and sorc = izi modo classes. Remove autoface and nerf magic missile and sorcs a bit and gameplay would be so much smoother, too bad the forums will be washed away by tears and anger of izi modo players.
