It is not at all the same thing as rolling on gear for an alt, because I'm still rolling on gear that will improve that character, in that spec.
Maybe not the same ..but close.

I'll agree that gearing a companion is important. But I would disagree that it takes precidence over another member of the group.

This game provides may way with which to obtain gear. Not the least of which is farming instances. Why can that method not be used to upgrade external factors such as aesthetics and companions? Why does it have to be in the instance and at the expense of your fellow members?

to answer the inevitable reply of "stats can be farmed too" ...The look you like will still be available ..the stats one needs at that time may only be availabe at that time.
I plan on living forever ...so far so good!

If they want it more than I do, that's only objectively verifiable in them choosing Need when I choose Greed. If we both choose Need, we both want it to the same degree as far as the game is concerned.

This is why it needs to remain simple: if you want it, you choose the highest priority roll to acquire it, so your chances are equal to the greatest chances of getting it (i.e., equal to others who also choose the highest priority roll). If you only "sort of" want it, or your own moral compass indicates that you shouldn't roll Need if you're going to just sell it, then choose Greed. The idea is you choose what you want to choose, not what someone else's priority system tries to get you to choose.
I would have to have played with people like those represented here to have a chance to become a martyr to your 'system' of loot distribution.

I prefer a common sense approach that benefits the majority instead of the minority in the long run. You chose to benefit yourself in every available avenue regardless of others involved.

You have your answer too.
Is the use of hyperbole an old person thing? Not sure where you are pulling these allegations of impending doom.

You're certainly playing in a universe far far away, only problem is yours is inhabited by only one person.

Circa means "around" and is commonly used to refer to a date, such as Circa late 1900's.

Except it's not circa.

It's crica. Which is a very horrible word in Spanish.

The name was "crica", not "circa".

Then you're using an item that your class can equip. I'm talking about items that you can't equip. As in, as a Trooper, not being able to roll Need for a pair of Jedi Robes that are marked "Jedi Knight/Jedi Consular" as a requirement. Where's the problem with this?

Whatever you say, I'm sure you must be right. In your mind at least.
What is that baseball bat in your signature? Oh! It's a lightsaber! How cute is that !

The item I will use, because it's an upgrade for me, in that it improves my performance in the game... Gives me every right to have a equal chance to obtain as anyone else in the group.

Lets make this very, very clear. I'm not asking for a better chance, I'm asking for a equal chance.

The look and the stats can be farmed equally, in fact if anything it might be easier to find the stats because you can buy mods from the commendation vendors. Those being as good if not better then what you can get though crafting, or drops.
