It is one thing to have a personal DPS report and a completely other one to have a public one.

I would support a personal combat log so you can find your precious rotation but public logs are one of the most hated things around...

You can find out who people are bad before the raid by doing stuff together with them. You do not need an addon of any kind for that.

You do if you want to PUG hard modes! :V
Except PUGs already finish hard modes on a regular basis these days...

Seriously, though, I wouldn't mind add-ons, but come on people, stop with the "it's needed" and the "it's impossible without" and the "industry standard" and whatever else you got lined up. It's silly, it's false and it doesn't help your cause in any way.

The introduction of mods and meters into wow was the beginning of the end of quality and challenge Why do you think they took their efforts out of blackwing lair / naxx quality content etc and put them instead into dual specs, gear scores and meters?

It's impossible to make a game that is challenges on a team level when most players think it should be about their individual hero status.
You do realize that only makes you sound like you cant explain it. What on earth does naxx/BWL have to do with addons and dual specs? They have different teams working on different things, it's not like they either add a new raid or they add some UI feature, they can do both at the same time.

How does competing in personal performance hurt the team effort in any way? One would think everyone benefits when people learn to do more dps.

The only argument against damage meters is:

I suck at my class, I play badly, damage meters will give people proof of me playing badly, I dont want that.

The reason why BioWare haven't put in a DPS meter atm is to allow them to fix the most comical imbalances and errors without being called out on the forums with screen shot evidence. It also allows them a bit of time to try and combat hackers and exploiters. Combat logs can easily highlight the dirty side of gaming; which again could be posted on the forums and provide bad publicity. Bad publicity can discourage continued subscriptions and ultimatley drop share prices (just like the Illum Valour disaster did).

They'll implement meters but for now there's too much crap under the carpet.

PS: For the dude who thinks a raid leader should micro manage everyone in their raid and have memorised all class animations and optimal rotations: Combat logs are also there to help those "tainted" with mortality.

I don't think there's some kind of conspiracy. I think the game was just released half-baked.
