Win/win.
I disagree. Just renaming a bunch of servers located in the US as "Australian" isn't any different to what other MMOs are already doing.

What we need are a set of Australian servers that are actually hosted in Australia, so we get the low-latency connection that comes with playing on a local server. Going from a 200-300 MS ping to a 100 MS ping might not seem like a big difference, but it's significant.

Thankfully Bioware seem to be well aware of this! Yay Bioware!

Quoting my previous post for the new page:

Feel free to lend support to this idea if you think having sub-100 ping iiNet-run SWTOR servers around Australia would be a good idea!

If a Bioware rep would like to get in contact with me regarding this, my contact info is in my profile. I'll put an email through to contact@bioware.com too.

I agree they should be in australia, but I think it makes good sense also not to be adding new servers. Simply re-allocate things. Better use of server space.

Not if that happens instead of us getting local servers based in Syd/Melb/whatevs

Great news for the Aussies and Newzies and others!

Have the haters raged yet? I thought the game was supposed to be shut down by then? LOL

Why are they even bothering with severs for us? Those of us who wanted to play have imported the game and are playing on US servers. Those of us who got all bent out of shape and have since moved on will probably not purchase the game locally and so unless there are mass server transfers those servers will be pretty much empty.

Bring on 1 March 2012 for server transfers and lower pings.

Might even try serious PvPing for the first time.

If 30+ is a couple to you, then yeah, I guess it is...

I wouldn't be surprised to see this pushed back.
Space, is big. Really big. You just won't believe how vastly hugely mindbogglingly big it is. I mean you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist, but that's just peanuts to space...

Here's hoping the Australian/NZ servers will be worth moving to, and by that I mean I hope the population will be high enough for puggers to find a group with relative ease and for Ilum (open pvp) and warzones to be filled easily.
Excession (Aus/Oceanic; GMT+8 to GMT+10) on Dalborra as of 24/4/12.

We're recruiting! Go here for more information or send myself (Arcis) an in-game message or tell.
