How does the raid leader decide what to change?

Without a combat log, how does he know if each healer is healing enough, or how does he/she know if every person spec'd for DPS is doing enough damage?

Spoiler alert: No one has ever answered these questions.
Good leader? can always switch a healer to do more damage if no one dying. Maybe the adds not a big deal and tank easily keeping them in line? ask the off tank to do more damage. The numbers are nice but it doesnt really change such dynamics unless you are trying to be as min/max as humanly possible.

COMMUNICATION. One word, very important.
Talk with people, treat them as human beings, earn their trust. Then no one will not be afraid to admit if they made a mistake. Everyone does them every once in a while. Making people feel bad after making a mistake only assures that everything is a lot harder afterwards.
That isn't a real answer.

If a person isn't holding their weight during a fight, asking in raidchat will not get you the info to fix this problem. How would they know it was them? Without numbers they won't.

"making people feel bad" - that's the problem right there. Telling someone that they aren't doing enough heals/damage/etc is NOT making them feel bad. It's called criticism

Ranked warzones are coming in a near-future update, be patient people. As for DPS meters in PvE, program an add-on for SWTOR to do just that if you're so bored and think it's easy.

Many people have made parsers for that reason for many MMO's (Anarchy Online for instance).

And if the problem is actually 1 or 2 players in the raid? And not switching someone from heals to dps.

There is no answer guys. Combat logs are needed.

A good solution but Bioware will ban people for using none official add-ons atm.
I know a guy who got banned for using a TS3 add on to show the over lay in game, but this was over turned.

Just be careful.

There is a constructive way of giving criticism and then there is the other way.
I'm talking about the constructive way here.

And raidchat text is not what I am talking about.
I'm talking about a voice communication over Ventrilo, Teamspeak, etc.
And as you know, these do not happen immediately. I'm talking about guilds here who develop a team with a common goal. They need to communicate together.
A good raid leader is able to communicate with people well enough and understands if there is an issue and corrects it together with the person if it's needed.

In order to parse combat logs, you first need combat logs.

Proofs? As far as I see it pro-METER players seem to find them NECESSARY to accomplish things in the game. If you are that awful I suggest doing more than find a DPS meter. Many of us are doing just fine without them.
